Sparks1061
Hi all, I have a Travel Van fitted with a Webasto Duel Top, The water heating is working fine, however the air heating isn´t starting, I am getting 5 red flashes which according to the manual is "Hot air motor fault: disconnection / short circuit/ fan speed out of range / fan blocked" It has just come back from the workshop where they found the Heater element had burned out so they replaced that, they also fitted a brand new blower assembly, however the same fault code remained so they removed the new unit and refitted the old one, So now they are suggesting I should replace the control unit, but at 500 Euros I would like to hear any other suggestions before going ahead :(
Derek Uzzell
I notice that you reported problems with your Webasto heater a year ago http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Webasto-Duel-Top-starting-issues/30753/ I was going to suggest you contact Webasto(UK) for advice but, if you are still in Finland (and the "500 Euros" reference suggests you are), I doubt that would help. Webasto's website has a list of national dealerships http://dealers.webasto.com/pages/info/companyoverview.aspx?SectionId=1&CategoryId=230 but it's probable that you'll be aware of this. spospe
Can I suggest doing a search on Google using the terms, "webasto dual top heater problems" and you will find lots of hits dealing with this heater, some of which may be of help to you. Sparks1061
Yes I am in Finland and have already been in touch with the national dealer, but they are not interested, they import the units and sell them for fitting by garages, they suggested I contact a garage and get them to look at it. Problem is there are plenty of garages working on Webasto but they eithe only look at the ones fitted to cars or HGV´s, I have so far only found one who was willing to take a look at the Duel Top and I am not convinced he knows what he is doing, He did admit he had never orked on one before! I have searched google and haven´t found anything that helps yet, but will keep looking, As much as I love the duel top when it is working, maybe it is time to get a quote for converting to gas!!!!! Derek Uzzell
I hesitate to point this out, but your Webasto heater is a "DUAL TOP" unit. If you've been using "Duel Top" when GOOGLE-searching, this might have affected your retrievals. The Webasto Dual Top Workshop Manual http://www.techwebasto.com/redirect/heater_main/Dualtop/sm_9019782B_dualtop.pdf offers (on Page 302) trouble-shooting guidance when 5 red flashes are shown. The final piece of advice given is "5 If heating air blower assembly and wiring harness have been checked and Dual Top still doesn’t run: replace complete Dual Top." The following MotorHomeFacts thread shows how difficult it can sometimes be to cure a fault with this heater even when people who are (or should be) familiar with the unit are doing the fault-finding. http://www.motorhomefacts.com/ftoptitle-96472-webasto-dualtop-heater-problem.html Other than to tell the person who is suggesting that your heater's control-unit be replaced that, if this action does not cure the problem, you won't pay, I don't know what else you can do. Sparks1061
:) Don´t worry the searches I have been doing have been using the right spelling :D and yes I also found the troubleshooting guide and that was one of the reasons I suspected that the garage I am using doesn´t actually know what they are doing :( replacing the whole unit would not be something I really want to consider, I have seen how much they are, am fairly sure it would be cheaper to replace with gas power!
