Hulguly
Help please Our 2005 Autotrail Apache 600 on 2.3 litre Fiat Ducato has today developed a judder when stationary and you pull the steering wheel left. The engine seems to be under slight load and the juddering type noise is made until no load is applied. Checked for leaks no problem, oil level fine, just passed MOT If it's just a noisy steering box our old land rover disco did this for 8 years with no problem.? Does any one have experience or knowledge of the above I.e does it require attention or do we ignore it? Kind Regards Hulguly
Derek Uzzell
This earlier forum thread refers to a Ducato steering 'shudder' https://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Ducato-shudder/8867/ (NB. The links within the thread no longer work.) There are also some suggestions here http://www.justanswer.com/uk-car/75je0-fiat-ducato-xxxxx-xxxxx-fiat-ducato-2-8-motorhome-passed.html Personally, I would not be comfortable wth an unusual steering-related characteristic that suddenly appeared ("...today developed a judder..."). Your problem could be due to something minor that can be tolerated for years or a symptom of a major failure in the near future. You'd be ill-advised to ignore it. CliveH
Had that symptom on both my previous Range Rover and Discovery - in both cases it was where the power steering belt was slipping under load. New belt fitted and problem solved.

Dave Newell
Try raising the revs a little, it could just be down to belt slippage and low revs giving limited power. D.
trooper
I have always been under the impression that it's always best to only turn the wheel with power steering while moving at least slowly .I have seen people tugging on the wheel when still and you could here the hydraulics complaining, or belt slipping, can't be good.
