It says 'Your motorhome or caravan internet connection will be secure and fast.'

That is very misleading because at best it can only be as secure and fast as the (normally insecure and slow) public connection it is going through. Connecting more devices can only make it slower still.

The only advantage I can see is you can use devices that you can't plug directly into an external antenna

Look on this site.http://www.motorhomewifi.com

.

They have a good explanation of the FON network I get free as I have BT broadband at home.

I got one of these antenna from them (link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rocket-Antenna-USB-External-WiFi-Booster-Range-Extender-Motorhome-Caravan-Boat-/231193157331?pt=UK_Computing_Boosters_Extenders_Antennas&hash=item35d42f9ed3 ), which is not bad and very widely sold and discounted, but I see they only sell more expensive ones now.

I am afraid I find the prices on the site you relate to a bit creative.

thanks for the link B-)

although i'm somewhat bemused on why you would say their prices are creative 8-) cos on the other web site they were £10 cheaper 8-)

i'm after something what will connect to a tablet or mob as well

do these things actually work well or are they abit of a gimmick?

i'm also with bt and have the fon thing but find them abit few and far between *-) not what bt claim methinks

FON is a really good scheme (we've been recommending it for a long time now) but it depends firstly on where you stay (middle of nowhere isn't much good!) and if you have a WiFi booster or not - since your devices range is limited to around 50 meters - even less inside an insulated motorhome.

Here is a write up we did on the scheme:

http://www.motorhomewifi.com/blog/the-definitive-guide-to-fon-and-bt-wifi/

If we can help in any way, please let me know.

As a comparison.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221350278908?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649. £30

£119.99

Looks the same to me.

They do work and are not just a gimmick.

The product in the links looks like a Solwise product. They are excellent and the company are good to work with. Mine stopped working and they replaced it without problem. Word of warning, not all Wifi antennas are compatible with routers, I cannot quite remember the full detail but Adam can advise, notwithstanding I got the antenna from him. The antennas are excellent but plug into laptops via a USB plug. An antenna for a router has different internals somewhere along the line. If you want to have more than one device on-line then you need a router, single device with a USB socket needs a good antenna. I-pad etc which do not have a USB socket need a router. Having said that you could use your smart phone as a base.

We have the iboost from motorhomewifi and it works very well for us. At the moment we are abour 10 k to the east of Rouen at Pont-de-L'Arche and picking up Orange France....we are getting free 30 minute chunks of wifi; you just have to log in again after every 30 mins, which is no problem.
