Curtisden
On my return to the Salisbury Park and Ride last year I found this alongside my camper. Are they telling me something?
Brians dad
We are hoping to use the Salisbury park and ride next week- can you let us know which one allows disabled (or even able bodied) motorhomes? Do you recommend? Thanks in advance for any info.
Curtisden
51.051702, -1.783173 Downton Road to the SE towards Ringwwod direction. Take your bus pass. Take the tower tour at the cathedral wonderfull. Also walk over the water medows to the South. Also the Army Air corps museum at Middle wallop is great. Brians dad
Thanks for that curtisden. Also list of good things to see. However, Brians mum especially wants to go and see Edward Heaths house in the middle of Salisbury, which has turned into a museum of his life and doings. Personally, I cannot see the attraction of looking at the 'achievements' of our second worst post war prime minister, but we do sometimes have to compromise - I may well get Swindon railway museum in return! To be fair to Heath, he was a good musician and yachtsman, and I think there is a lot about that in the museum.
CliveH
I would add Old Sarum to the list. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/properties/old-sarum/ and regardless of Heath's house being in it - The Close is worth a visit. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186414-d261333-Reviews-The_Close-Salisbury_Wiltshire_England.html
Curtisden
Don't know if I should tell you this? But in the 60 I use to crew my fathers boat on the Medway when Heath kept Morning Cloud 3? at Upnor at our club. We often were in races he took part in. While aloof yes when approached on the water he was just one of the crowd. He was often just seen with his crew and never any security details and police escorts that you see these days. He was not popular with the Salisbury Chase residents as he bought I think the freehold and left the house to a trust which trustiees as I understand went against his wishes in some way. yeti
We visited the house some years ago,but I have since found out that the trust is in danger of closing the house.
