Has this happened to you ?.

Was on the motorway the other week when traveling at my normal motorway speed of approx. 60 mph we heard a loud bang coming from the near side just behind the cab door. I know when traveling in a car over the years that the tyres have picked up stones etc and they are flicked out and sometimes hit the inside of the wheel arch but in the vans case the stone or whatever I ran over (did not see anything) hit the lower part of the body work resulting in an approx 1 inch round crack.

Has anybody else had this happen to them.

Our van is a AutoTrail Tracker.

Have just got the van repaired at Cannock Resprays and they have done me a nice job good to know we have a local specialised motorhome body shop to hand. Web link http://www.motorhomerepairs.co.uk/

This company who I have no connection with came recommended by Diamond Dave so cannot be bad.

Had something similar a few years ago south bound on the M74 with a wheel nut off of an HGV going the other way, the nut sailed over the armco and punched a 2" hole just below the door mirror , got the nut out via inner door panel ,cost a door skin plus paint.

6" higher and would have been a bit painfull, and caused a tear to trickle!!!

Can I ask how much the repair cost or was it an insurance claim?

We have a similar sized crack (not caused by a stone) which is not a real problem but wondered how much to repair. Did have one quote at over £1500 but I think he was taking the p!ss

Repair total with a new door outer skin + paint £375 inc VAT ,used a local paint shop, now ceased trading tho' ,but this was in 2008 ,so for a similar I guess the price would have gone up a bit.

The noise when the wheel nut hit was loud ,thought it was a gun shot.
