ham
This is just a few sentences taken from Wales on line http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/campervans-motorhomes-face-tighter-parking-7034514 A war on campervans being fought on Welsh seafronts has seen holiday makers in Aberystwyth threatened with tighter parking restrictions. Councillors in the West Wales town are fed-up of caravaners leaving their mobile homes on the promenade, sometimes for weeks on end. Their complaints echo those in coastal destinations like Llandudno, Rhyl, Porthcawl and Criccieth where attempts have been made to clamp down on so-called “freebie” holidaymakers. LOOKS LIKE the few have spoilt it for the considerate motorhomer The main complaint as come from the home owners that live along the Prom and who can’t park their cars... but they are also going to suffer., Ceredigion council are to discuss this ban today and it could be no overnight parking or total ban . Derek Uzzell
A few weeks back there was a long forum thread about motorhome parking at Aberystwyth and I'm pretty sure this included reference to the WalesOnLine article you mention and to this BBC piece http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-27128430 As that thread degenerated into a name-calling war of words I presume it was deleted by the Moderator. ham
Parking ban as been defered on part of the prom see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-27474000 Theres nothing wrong with Wales. The problem of wild camping or free loading is a problem in many parts of the UK with out any thought of the impact they are making and move on the next daying and it does not help those of us who do park overnight ,In my locality the council will not tolerate any overnight parking due the Problem we have with Travellers. mikejkay
To call wild campers free loaders is extremely offensive. If the problem is, as you say, with Travellers then this issue should be addressed directly by Local Authorities. The different views regarding wild camping have been widely discussed but you seem to be unwilling to accept that there are motorhomers who do not do things your way. Madmaggott
It is a shame that a few motorhomers spoil it for the rest of us. Aber is one of the few towns that provide fairly central large vehicle parking which allows the motorhome to be used to visit and enjoy the town. I had hoped that the council would be persuaded to extend the facility to allow overnight parking but following this clampdown it seems unlikely. Shame. We need to get councils on our side not behave in a way that alienates them even further.
