Does anyone know of a supplier that makes decent mattresses with the corner cut off at one end? Failing that, any bright ideas on how to 'firm up' the existing one? biggadave Posted May 23, 2014 Share Posted May 23, 2014 Hello Atom I had a similar problem on my previous motorhome a Dakota I solved the problem of meeting in the middle by fixing a length of foam pipe lagging (for 3/4 pipe) to the middle of the slats with cable ties and it worked very well thats if yours has slats. I've attached a photo of the mattress of a 2010 Autoquest 155 like yours. I suggest you remove the mattress from your motorhome and lay it on the floor in your house. Then simulate how you sleep on it in the motorhome (ie. lie on it with your wife). If - despite being on a solid surface - the mattress is still too soft for comfort, you'll probably need to replace it. It is possible to obtain mattress 'toppers' that are designed to firm up a soft mattress but, if a mattress is so soft that sleepers would tend to roll to the centre even when the mattress is on a solid base, a topper is unlikely to prove effective. If you think that the mattress is OK when it's on the floor, then the problem lies with what's supporting the mattress. If the base is slatted, you could experiment, initially, by placing a piece of thin plywood of mattress size on top of the slats to provide support to the whole underside of the mattress. You could also replace the slats if they seem inadequate (GOOGLE on "bed slats"). Specialised suppoert systems are also available. I ended up putting a couple of lengths of plastic 'Linkabord', as used for raised garden beds, under the mattress and topped it with a memory foam Duvalay 'topper' (expensive!). This vastly improved the firmness. On reflection, I think it would have been a better idea to fork out a few quid more and buy a new 'french' mattress. Have a good summer everyone.
