HymerVan
I have posted on this before but does anyone know of a reasonably priced piece of route planning software that will run on my i-pad Independently from the Internet and with functionality that approaches that of Microsoft Autoroute. At present I carry an elderly and very slow laptop just to run Autoroute. I need it to cover Europe as well as UK.

sshortcircuit
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/navfree-gps-uk-roi-+-street/id391334793?mt=8 Used this on my iPad which did work ok. My iPad did not have GPS but I purchased a GNS 5870 MFI receiver which bluetoothed the info to iPad. iPad now deceased, thankfully, and now use same programme on my Android which took me to Spain and back with very little problems (You have to load maps for France and Spain/Portugal). Would add that when planning a route and have WiFi you can use street view to give you an idea of where you are going. Its free so you can bin it if not happy Edit: I use it on a Nexus
HymerVan
Just to be clear I am not looking for GPS functionality as I already have in effect 2 satnavs in my van when in Europe, the built-in Trafficmaster which is also a tracker and my Garmin. I need the "autoroute" for route planning, i.e. conceptualisation of journeys. My i-pad does not have 3G only wi-fi so no use on the move.
alan
Hi Guys We use our faithful Tom Tom with one of our "go live" programmes but also use a map. What's wrong with a map? At the end of the day, far more satisfying than any electronic device. (lol) :-D Regards, Alan
docted
Laurence if you have wifi there are lots of businesses nowadays who have free wifi eg Macdonalds where you can route plan on your ipad usiing google maps.
Guest Had Enough
He doesn't want sat-nav, he doesn't want anything that needs Internet access. He wants a programme with pre-loaded maps which will enable him to plan his route options before leaving! That's why he asked about 'Route planning software that isn't dependent on the Internet! sshortcircuit
Similarly, you do not need GPS for planning with Navfree, just set your "home" and off you go. Suggest the OP tries the options provided before jumping to possibly wrong conclusions.

Billggski
Your pre installed "maps" app does all this, just put in start and finish points, press "directions" then "start" and the directions scroll across the top as the map moves.

I'm a big fan of Basecamp on the PC but as yet haven't been able to find anything similar from Garmin for the ipad (or android), but it sounds like you know differently. Guest JudgeMental
Steve although we have a ipad I dont think i would bother with basecamp on it...it works OK on PC and laptop, and once we are travelling I just use te garmin unit. it was just that I noticed a link to app downloads and their is one for apple devices, knowing apple you probably have to pay but the PC versions are free. I only mentioned it as OP appears to be apple fixated:-D the link was my second one above this is latest basecamp: version 4.3.2 http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435
