Wow! Day 10 - 14

Recommended Posts

Hi again

Day 10,11. Our next site had intended to be Le Rossignol, ACSI 223, but reviews indifferent, so chose 'Antipolis' in Antibes instead (Camp Chx 200, £14:95)

On leaving St Raphael to head towards Antibes we ignored the Sat Nav and took the coast road through AGAY and CANNES. It's only around 50 km but took us hours as every 5 mins we stopped to take photos. The views are spectacular with deep blue sea, red rock cliffs and small coves for bathing. AGAY is really nice, but Cannes was amazing as we drove through whilst the Film Festival was on. Not sure about the scenery but the sites were beautiful (hope OH does not read this)(small item on bucket list)

Antipolis is a super site with Bar, Restaurant, Swimming Pool, free Tennis and a mini market which has fresh bread every morning. Each pitch has it's OWN toilet, wash room, shower and dish washing area at no extra cost. You do however have to put down a 160 euro deposit which is refunded in full on leaving, once inspected so book the inspection time the night before...

It's about 800 metres to the beach and train station which we got into MONACO on Saturday morning(14euro return) don't consider driving in as parking is non existant. We were actually there on F1 Qualifying day, the atmosphere was brilliant, with giant TV screens to watch the race....(Monaco on F1 day, another bucket list item) Stayed on site for 2 nights.. Rated 9/10

moved onto 'International Castellane(camp cheque 202) a 5* site??, had planned to stay here as a base to explore the Verdon Gorge but as we were not keen on this site and the Gorge was a bit too far, just stayed 1 night rated 5/10

Drove to the Gorge the following morning. Used the D952, Wow,Wow,Wow so so beautiful, had breakfast overlooking the Gorge, table and chairs out!! So glad we did it, another must do if your in the area. Stopped again later at another pull in overlooking the Lac de Ste-Croix, Photo-Snap time. There are many sites along the way, so as we had spent several hours site seeing we decided to stay at a site 'Saint Clair' (ACSI 2184) which is midway between the Lake and Moustier Ste-Marie, had one of the best shower blocks so far and free wifi on the pitch. Bread ordered at reception.

In the afternoon we cycled into Moustier Ste-Marie, now this is a town you must visit if your near, has loads of little quaint shops, bars, restaurants etc. could spend all day there, try the Crepes they were amazing and only 2.5 euro, just don't take the Van into the centre, park down the hill.... Stayed 1 night 6.5/10

Day 14

Moved onto a site west of APT called Au Domaine des Chenes Blancs(Camping Chx 207) supposed to be 8km from Gordes which we wanted to visit, but was nearer 14. However decided to cycle in anyway, electric bikes, I'm not that fit!! Beautiful town built on the side of a cliff face and was where the Cafe scene in 'A Good Year' was filmed starring Russell Crow.

The site however never lived up to our expectations, the pitches had low overhanging trees everywhere, even getting to the pitch was a nightmare, don't these owners realise when you spend tens of thousands on a Motorhome you don't want it scratched to bits because they can't maintain the site. OK that's my moan over. Needless to say only stayed 1 night. Rated 4/10

Have now moved on to Camping Les Blachas( camp Chx 219) pitch 66 beautiful.... Report later, early days but looks really good!!

Lovelly reporting my son was in Cannes and Antibes at the weekend and also took the train to Monaco for the F1 qualifying sat on the banking opp start line , he got quite sunburnt. Not too far for him as he lives in Chamonix , we hope to be there next weekend leaving UK next Tuesday.
