ronnieb
Sorry if this is a stupid question. We have loaded up or new van only to find the payload is woefully inadequate for our needs so now looking to replate it above 3500. Off to the weighbridge shortly to recheck mtpln and axle weight. We want to take 2 bikes on the back do we need to weigh the back axle weight and just add 30kgs for the 2 bikes or put the bikes on the van to get an accurate figure Thanks Ron
colin
The weight the bikes adds to the rear axle will be more than there own weight depending on the overhang, a corresponding amount will come off the front axle, this can be calculated, but if your going to weight anyway might as well put the bikes on. Guest JudgeMental
As Colin says you need to visit weighbridge in fully loaded and watered/gas holiday mode, including bikes and passengers...a bit pointless starting another thread on subject..... Derek Uzzell
This 2013 forum-thread includes an entry showing how to calculate the effect on axle-loadings adding extra weight has. http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Chassis-Uprating-Have-we-missed-something-/30352/ As has already been advised, rather than try to calculate (or guesstimate) the effect the bikes will have, it would be better to mount them on the motorhome before having it weighed.
