ixion
Thought we would share this as may be useful to other owners. We have had the van about 4 years and it has sailed through all the MOT tests, it is 2006 model Autosleeper Neuvo. Anyway it failed last week on 2 counts. 1 One headlight to high and could not manually adjust, 2 dashboard switch to adjust headlights not working. the tester said they have tightened up on various things that's why if failed this time. Remedy 1 find a socket that fits properly 6 sided to slacken off the nylon adjustment screws at the back of the headlight unit, or silicon lubricant may help - Do Not use WD40. 2 remover dashboard switch and dismantle carefully the roller on ours was snapped. we tried to glue but even leaving overnight it failed . ordered replacement on auction site £10. George Collings
On a motorcaravan due to the fact that they all run close to their maximum load there is little change in the vehicles attitude. That being the case once the headlamps are correctly aligned the load adjustment is virtually redundant . The Testers Manual states that if the alignment is correct there is no need to check the headlamp leveling mechanism.
Derek Uzzell
MOT documentation is available here http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/ The section on Headlamp Aim includes the following advice "Where driver’s beam aim controls are fitted the beam aim should be tested without altering the control setting except where this would result in failure for beam aim being too low. In such cases the beam aim should be re-checked with the control set at its ‘highest’ position."
