hymernova1
Hi Just been looking on Brtittany Ferry site and noticed they charge for parking there. We have a ferry going early morning and intended staying at the port overnight. Is this something new as we have done this journey on numerous occasions and never had to pay for parking before. Thanks
Guest Had Enough
It must have changed recently. Two years ago we stayed on the docks free of charge. Returning from Brittany in June we stayed at Port Solent, which is a residential and entertainment complex a short drive from the ferry port. We had a much quieter night there than on the port. Go past the David Lloyd Centre where there's a large car park.
Mike88
The Port Guide here: http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/guides/ports/portsmouth is ambiguous as regards parking. There has always been a charged car park at the Port but travellers could use the lanes overnight for free after the evening sailing had departed. I do not know whether this arrangement has changed so I would contact Brittany Ferries for clarification.

Once the last sailing in the evening as departed they don't mind you parking over on the left hand side lanes. Even if you arrive before the last departure I don't think anyone will bother you. We parked up again all night for the morning ferry to Santander this year, no problem.

Derek Uzzell
Brittany Ferries’s current advice about caravan/motorhome overnight-parking at the ferry-port is: "If you have an early morning sailing caravans / motorhomes can be parked in the check-in lanes after midnight. The vehicle is parked at your own risk and should not be left unattended. Please note that no facilities are open overnight .” This information is in the “Port parking” section of this webpage http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/guides/ports/portsmouth#parking There is a multi-storey car park next to the embarkation area and the quoted charges refer to this. But, as there’s a vehicle-height maximum of 2.2m, few motorhomes will be able to use this facility. Parking at Port Solent (mentioned by Had Enough) was discussed here http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Overnight-stay-on-dockside-/33907/
