Hook up not working

Hi

And thank you to everyone that' is contributing to my post. Special regards to Brambles who we have been PM and has given me some great advice.

I have today located another 20 amp fuse that had blown above the battery fastened to a case of four fuses. They is only 3 fuses in the unit fuse one is missing completely in hole one.( I'm not sure what these 3 fuses do or are I've sent Brambles a picture of these. Hopefully he may be able to confirm.

I found these after reading the refrigerator fuses are located under the bonnet.

Any way I thought I had cracked it to no avail. I'm comfortable checking fusses however 230v not too confident enough with out tuition to test.

I've just checked the water pump and can confirm the make is Shurflo Diaphragm pump no 2095-204-413.this was only replaced brand new 18 months ago.

Does any one have any more suggestion where any more fuses may be hiding. Does the pump have a built in fuse etc.

I want to crack this myself and especially for the help members and Brambles have given me.

I've only just registered as a member and can say the unity by members is brilliant.

Thank to you all I'm sure we are only a fuse away.

I'm mobile at the moment, so excuse the brevity.

The 'missing' fuse in the 4 way holder is normal. The others are, respectively, fridge/step, vehicle battery charge, leisure battery charge.

There will be another set of fuses for the habitation items, most likely inside the habitation area.

With limited bandwidth I can't refer to the diagram I linked to above, but I think it shows the water pump and toilet flush on the same fuse (no 1), so testing the toilet flush may indicate a fuse issue or not.

The Gazelle handbook is probably downloadable from the Swift website, but you need to invoke the 'archive' option to find it

Think I have caught up myself now. The habition fuses were found yesterday and a blown one replaced. These were near the charger unit.

Now maybe I am wrong but appears to be six fuses and the cct diagrams show 6 in a block.

These are as far as I am aware are now all good fuses. However there may be a 7th fuse hiding somwhere for what is called the EMC lights. These are habitation lights which stil work when the engine is running. There is also an EMC relay and this is the one in pic below. I am sure it has to be this one. Now were is the fuse. It could be part of the base for the relay but I really do not know so stabbing in the dark. Is there part of the base which slides out and comtains a fuse?? or is a cover over a fuse? This needs investigating I think and found. The fuse connecting wires are Brown/Yellow and Slate/Yellow probbaly. Maybe I am imagining I can see them go into base of the relay in the pic below. It is also possible the relay has failed but unlikely.

On another note, I suspect the 12 volts sytem is floating, this is where the negative connections are not connected to the chassis. This is Swift copying what they would do in caravans which are all insulated from the chassis. This could explain why so many fuses blew. Basically reversing the battery would have raised the negative output of the charger to 12 volts, the charger output then rising to 24 volts. ...I think!!!

Missed your last post. Still do above as I mentioned and look for EMC relay fuse.

Maybe the next step after that is to establish, without hook up exactly what works and what does not.

This means checking everything, hob ignition and every light etc.

Then start the engine and check again. I think only the two EMC lights if you indeed have them should work, but lets check everything again anyway. Make clear lists of what works and what does not.

Also print out yourself a copy of the Gazelle wiring from the handbook

http://assets.swiftgroup.co.uk/uploads/HandBooks/motorhomes/2001%20MH%20Tech%20Books/1042553%20Swift%20MH%20Service%20Book%202001.pdf its page 17.

The wiring Diagram is very much going to be your friend so get familiar with it, its not too bad once you work it all out.

Robdought has asked me to update the thread, like all of us probably having problems finding his way around the forum at 1st., and finding this thread again.

Anyway, he went to an autoelectrician today who has tested the EMC relay and relay test ok. The technician was not keen to get involved in Motorhome wiring as not his specialised field.

Ther was more but have asked hin to clarify before I post. Basically something about finding an earth wire from the boiler top teh boiler switch.

What I have asked him to do is test what works of the leisure battery with no hook up, and also again with the engine running ( not much should be operational ..just the EMC lights). Hoping this gives us a decent list of what is not working off the battery. My feeling was if we can at least get everything working off the battery then and only then we can move on to fixing the problems when on mains.

Apparently it was working on mains after a fuse was replaced but has stopped again.

Good afternoon

I've just put a request for someone that owns a 2001 Swift Gazelle F61 LWB Fiat to get in touch with me. I think I'm almost there just want them if possible to answer a few questions about basis Items.

I'm doing my final check on the Leisure/ EHU a and will post on her ASAP.

Thanks again to everyone who has read and contributed to my post.

  • 10 months later...

Hello

To everyone last year that tried to help me with my problem regarding my hook up situation. I very sorry I left the forum with out explaing at the time but my wife became very seriously ill after a life changing illness

at the time and the last twelve months have Been testing to say the least.

However her condition in now manageable so today for the first time in nearly twelve months I spent some time on my Motorhome Albeit the MOT run out etc.

So today after checking the 20 mm 3.15a fuse in the FT12SM in the 12 v charger unit and buying a new pack from Maplins. I realised in the past I checked all the fuses with a fuse tester but was operating it incorrectly so the original readings last year said the fuse was fine when in fact it was broke.

So I put a new peal meant fuse back in a YES all worked perfect my old van back and running.A hour later went outside no interior light again.

Changed fuse again alls well until I turned the tap on blown again.

You will all remember my problems started when I put a new hand me down leisure battery down from a friend.

Only today have I found a fuse that I can say blows lol the time. Could the hand me down leisure battery I fitted be causing my ongoing problems.

Does any one have the same model Motorhome has myself so they can give me the correct make model so I can go out and buy a leisure battery in the morning please help me and a very special good Erving to Brambles and every one who tried to help me last year
