Travelling to Spain in winter

Hi

We are considering renting a 6m motor home in Rouen, (this seemed to be cheaper than hiring one in the UK) for a couple of months so that we can travel to Spain and make sure that we enjoy the experience before actually buying one in the UK.

We are thinking of leaving the UK in early Feb 15 and wanted to check that we should be able to drive all the way to Spain without problems with snow. We want to avoid the worst of the weather in the UK but don't want to set off too early.

I would welcome any advice as we've only ever used a motorhome briefly while on holiday in New Zealand so haven't ever toured round Europe.

Hello gphansen, and welcome,

we had 6 weeks in Spain last year, setting off from UK approx mid Feb, and had a very nice trip. We had rain on the way down. We had rain until we reached the france/spain border, then it got seriously pleasant.......but that was last year, and who would be foolish enough to say it may even possibly be the same a year on?

Good luck, and I hope it is snow-free,

regards

We are regular travellers between Spain and UK. We have used the Santander / Bilbao ferry option as well as driving through France by various routes. Weatherwise, avoid having to cross the Pyrenees if it is snowy, there are plenty of options including the tunnel under, or go the easterly route and drive down the coast. We avoid tolls, and enjoy the drive. leave the mad dash to the speedsters, and take in the scenery! On a downside, there have been regular reports of bogus police, hold ups in fuel stations BUT, with normal care, avoid anything that might seem dodgy, and you will have a fantastic time.

Have had light snow in Navarre area in March going down but no big deal, but you can never tell....... we take the west coast toll free route, many do. pretty straightforward from Rouen (N 154 - N10) lots of stuff using site "search" function. Welcome to the forum, have a nice trip :-D
