Angela E Free
We had a new Alternator fitted at 9000 miles, just out of warranty. It appears to have gone again 2.5 yrs later at 20,000 miles. Does anyone know of a problem with these alternators and perhaps if so, does it need an upgrade to a greater output maybe? :-(
kevina
I've just had mine fail after 40,000 miles of mostly winter use. A bosch replacement fitted at a bosch agent cost about £325, they don't call them "reconditioned" any more. The garage told me it would probably be a new alternator and it certainly looks like new, the part number differs from the original with the first 3 numbers being different. This was also a 2008 2.3 with a 140A alternator but to be honest I haven't read of any other failures. Kev
Guest Peter James
www.eurocarparts.com currently does the Bosch Alternator at a reduced price of £184.80 But you would also need a new drive belt £16.19, and it looks like several hours work to fit as you have to remove front panels to get access to it Bearing all that in mind £325 fitted at a Bosch Agent sounds fair enough to me
Mike88
This is an extract from a post by euroserve from another thread: "The alternator for this vehicle is part number 504057813 for the 140A model. There are 110, 140, 150 and 180A versions listed. This Fiat part is £569 +VAT and the equivalent Bosch item is (0124 525 064) £350 + VAT"
euroserv
Should also add that it is at the rear of the engine on the off side. You will need to remove the OS drive shaft to replace the alternator. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISMANTLE THE ENGINE MOUNT/POWER STEERING PUMP BECAUSE IT LOOKS EASIER; YOU WILL WRECK IT! Why do you think you need a new one? Have you had the chassis to gearbox earth lead checked? What are the symptoms? Nick
