armstrongpiper
I suppose these questions may be a parallel to the thread below on Solar Panels. I have wondered about the economics of fitting a Solar Panel vs charging from the engine. So, can anyone tell me a. How many amps is generated to charge the battery from an engine on tick-over? b. What is the fuel consumption on tick-over? Neil B
lennyhb
A bit irrelevant as to charge a flat 100a/h leisure battery running on tick-over you would probably have to run the engine for a day or two and annoy everyone around you. You would probably get a 5 amp charge for the first 15-30 minutes then as the terminal voltage increases the charge would drop to around 2 amps so running the engine for 50 hours would probably do it providing you didn't draw any current during that time. Fuel consumption 60-70 mpg I'll let you do the conversion. (lol)
