Hymer exists 512 windscreen wipers

Presumably you are asking about the wiper blades, rather than the wiper arms.

I notice that you’ve also asked about this on the Caravan Club forum and ben advised that, if you measure the blade lengths, you should be able to obtain replacements from Halfords. This is probably true, but as three blades are involved, you might be better buying them on line.

I used to buy “Aerowiper” flat blades from this company

replacing the traditional metal-skeleton blades originally fitted to my 2005 Transit-based Hobby. The “Aerowiper” blades are inexpensive and I found them to be quiet and effective in operation. They have a ‘universal’ profile, meaning that they should be suitable for vehicles with a RHD or (as was the case with my Hobby) an LHD wiper pattern.

They are designed to be ftted to vehicles with conventional hooked style wiper arms - if your Hymer has a different type of wiper arm you’d need either a ‘multi-fit’ blade or, if Hymer has chosen to use a wiper arm with an unusual end-fitting (which I doubt) blades that exactly match the originals.

If a Hymer Exsis-i 512’s wiper blades are all 20” length with the commonplace hook-type attachment fitting, there’s plenty of choice in ‘flat’ or ‘conventional’ designs.

(I used a Ford Escort Estate 1990-2000 ‘single blade’ search purely to identify products with the 20" blade length and hook-type fitting.)

Hi Andy,

Saw your request for info on replacement wiper blades. In a former life I worked at a wiper blade manufacturer. Assuming you wish to replace the blades due to poor performance. In addition to wiper rubber wear you may find that it is more a problem with the windscreen needing degreasing. This issue causes more wiper problems than any other. A bottle of methylated spirits a clean cloth and a healthy dose of elbow grease will shift most grime. Diesel fumes are the worst offender of the "greasy window" syndrome. After the meths treatment I like to use a good quality car wash to ensure all remaining "crud" is dispersed. To ensure best performance it is essential to always use a wiper additive in your washer bottle. This conditions the screen glass by reducing the friction between the wiper rubber edge and the glass. It acts like a lubricant.

Worn wiper blade rubber contact edges can be identified by fine lines of water rivulets following the arc of the blade indicating the edge is corrugated. If so you will need to replace. In my experience it is normal in UK to replace full blades, however a more cost effective option is to replace the wiper rubber & backing (plastic or metal) rather than the whole assembly as is common here in Australia. The strong ultraviolet here destroys the rubber wiping edge well before the blade wears out. Issues with lack of rain, dusty roads in the country areas along with heat causing the wiper rubber to weld to the windscreen magnifies rubber wear. Problems not too common in UK I suspect.

Another area to review is the clearance between the claws (fingers) and the insert backing. If there is too much clearance you will experience a juddering effect as the wiper moves through it's arc. Adjust to a smooth slide fit by closing the claws with a small pair of pliers.

Suggest you try cleaning & adjusting before you spend some of your "hard earned" on new blades.

regards,

Gary.

Somebody has been telling me porkies, I was told Bolk flat wiper blades were the best aftermarket ones you can buy ;-) Cost me £8 for a pair so you would think so :-) and much better than the Bosch blades they replaced

Evolution wiper blades are the best after market blades you can buy...

They may be good, but how can you be so sure they are the best?

Is there any independent test evidence that this is the case, or is that just your opinion?

I do some dealing in auto as accessories and a good friend of my runs a large distribution & import business supplying all the major motor factors and wholesales and hundreds of shops. He distributes most brands of wiper blades and from customer feedback these are the best also the most expensive.
