annpspeirs Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Fiat/DAF garage diagnosed faulty No 4 injector, tested and billed me £331 for repairing injector and retesting passed OK. On way home 8 miles, fault occurred again and engine management light came on. Took if for drive today and the management light went off. No shuddering until I'd completed 40 miles, light came back on and then it started in earnest. Got back to house and back to garage in morning. It doesn't cut out just not running smoothly. Probably fault cleared again in the morning. Any advice please.
euroserv Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 The obvious answer is to take it back to the garage that 'repaired' it. It's a bit puzzling because you can't repair these injectors in situ and they are very difficult to remove. I can't see that they charged enough to remove it and fit an exchange unit so what did they actually do? I suspect that they wiggled the connectors a bit and maybe plugged into the vehicle to do some tests; which would make that invoice look rather expensive. In any case; what they did was not the answer so they need to try harder to solve the problem or offer you a refund. What is the point of having 'experts' if they don't know what they are doing?
annpspeirs Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks for your reply and I took van back to garage this morning after driving it until fault occurred and stated quite firmly that the faulty injector was not the problem as the fault was still there. I said you have to drive it around until the fault occurs and I'm sure it's something to do with the fuel. Mechanic took it out for over 30 minutes, came back and said, yes, I finally got fault and it's the throttle control valve!!! Their cure, take one out of one of their own vehicles that was going back to Fiat!! Waited all day, read kindle and at 4.30pm garage assured me it was OK. Thanks very much no further bills, Happy Christmas and off I went. Back home now the long way round, got stuck in long queue on Black Cat roundabout and no problem at all. Phew am I a happy bunny!
Guest Joe90 Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Really hope you've got it sorted, having read your post and the symptoms it sounded exactly like the issue I had earlier this year, which showed as a faulty no4 injector, having been "fixed" by a garage it started running rough with the engine light on again soon after, after researching the problem online, removing the plug and applying some specialist electrical contact cleaner inside both the plug and injector then left to dry thoroughly cured the problem and it has run without fault for the last couple of thousand miles. ;-) I never did get my money back from the garage though. :'(

annpspeirs Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 Hi Stalwart of Bedfordshire, Sorry who is George? I'm in the same neck of the woods. I think the garage was highly embarrassed to be told by a woman that it was definitely a fuel problem/accelerater. Next time I am going to write down the process of the fault because listening to passed on information things got a bit out of sync!!! I am being positive, it's not going to go wrong in the foreseeable future. :-D Thanks everyone.

That would be George Osbourne, in autumn statement it was announced that (if tory's are voted back in) the black cat would get a flyover, IIRC the present works are fourth since bedford bypass opened and it's just an enlargement of roundabout. BTW if you want can you PM me name of garage?
