Guest Joe90
In most cases, you can park your motorhome in our car parks if the vehicle meets the following 3 criteria: the vehicle is intended for private use only (and not a commercial vehicle) the vehicle can negotiate any height restriction that is in place :D it can be accommodated in a normal marked bay Sounds like a no to me.........unless cars are now 7.5 metres long. 8-)

pepe63xnotuse
Pedrosita.. This quote, also taken from that link: Vehicles larger than a standard parking space. If your motorhome is larger than the standard parking space (2.4m X 4.8m), you can only park in the following unlined parking areas: Matlock Bath - Matlock Bath Station - upper unmarked level (adjacent to coach parking area) Matlock Bath - Matlock Bath Station overspill car park Little Longstone - Monsal Head - long stay car park (to rear of Monsal Head Hotel) Bakewell - Agricultural Business Centre – 3 designated bays for use on non-livestock sales days. (Limited alternative grassland parking on livestock sales days, Mondays and Thursdays weekly). ..and presumably, the above wouldn't have any barriers?...although personally, I'd want to check first(with a phone call/email?) Brock
Derbyshire is full of stone lorries and to ensure the drivers get a decent break, there are numerous lay-bys that fit in lorries. There are cycling/walking trails on Staffordshire Moorlands and in the Peak District which usually have unrestricted parking. Long Hill, the A 5004 road from Buxton to Whaley Bridge has a couple of off road lay-bys that would take your van although I haven't checked recently whether they have added any parking restrictions. Ashbourne has an overflow car park which may take motorhomes. Also, it has on street parking in a few areas. However, Councils can bring in new parking restrictions at the drop of a hat so I would contact one of the organisations in the area you wish to visit and seek their up to date advice. Cliffy
The cattle market at Bakewell is very roomy and an easy walk in to the town.
Robinhood
There are a number of National Trust car parks that are accessible (and free if you are a member). Longshaw is a good example. Busy in season, but quiet at the moment. ....and, given that, on-street parking shouldn't be too difficult at the moment. I've had a couple of walks out from Eyam over the last week or so, and had no problem at all parking (the car) in the village (where there is plenty of on-street parking if you avoid weekends and bank holidays). Just in front of the church is unrestricted, and plenty wide enough for a motorhome to park without causing problems - been entirely empty on both recent visits. flicka
Plenty of room for larger outfits at Dovedale car park (Ashbourne end) with variety of walks available. Also Tissington Trail Car Parks mostly suitable, (except Ashbourne) no height barriers or parking bays marked out,
Guest Peter James
Asking the Council is generally a waste of time. They won't tell you about the best spots, but will direct you to one of their Pay and Display parks you probably won't get in anyway. If you do go in such a park I believe that as long as all your wheels are within the marked bay then you are OK - overhang doesn't count. Doesn't make sense I know, but then you often find that with parking restrictions. If anyone knows different please post. Incidentally Victor Meldrew did Derbyshire on Monday - link: https://www.itv.com/itvplayer/richard-wilson-on-the-road This is exactly the problem, you can get a fixed penalty for "overhanging" , and having fallen foul of it, and unsuccessfully appealing I'd be very wary of overhanging any bay. Contravention Code 24 is one of several contravention codes and states - Not parked correctly within the markings of the bay or space. This contravention code is often termed "parked beyond bay markings". This penalty charge notice is charged at the lower rate Although slightly different, this bloke was fined whilst parked on his own driveway for this contravention. Thanks for the reply, and yes the photo is different to what I had in mind. Overhanging the public road is arguably causing an obstruction (and I wonder if that whitevanman has offended a neighbor who has complained about him). I was thinking of overhanging another bay in a car park, or (preferably) a part of the car park that isn't used, but with all wheels within the marked bay, which seems less likely to cause offence to anyone Has anyone been fined for that? In the summer here it is a regular occurrence for motorhome users to be given a PCN for overhanging the white lines of the parking bays, I have also emailed both the Isle of Wight council, and Cardiff council enquiring about parking and the possibility of a small overhang when we had our PVC, the reply from both being the whole of the vehicle needs to fit in a bay, otherwise it is in breach of the regulations. Cardiff were a bit more forthcoming in saying where chargeable two tickets should be bought and displayed even if only a minor overhang into the next bay resulted, otherwise a PCN would be issued, as would be for encroaching bays even where not chargeable. Solomongrundy
Here are three, there are plenty more off the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road, close to the Tissington Trail - Tissington (53.065672,-1.735958) Newhaven (53.146444,-1.777471) off the B5054 Parsley Hay (53.170443,-1.782283)
johnlc
The car park at Baslow has no height barriers and gives relatively quick access to walking outside the town e.g. Baslow Edge. When we were there in November the pay machine wasn't working and I called the council department to say I had put money in but not ticket was issued and I didn't want a fine. Apparently the machine is often out of order. It would be difficult to fit a 7.5m van in a single bay but the bays at the back of the site back on to grass next to a stream which would allow some overhang. The car park was very quiet in mid-week November anyway.
