Has anyone any experience with the Media Tex 7" truck sat nav that can be used to enter the dimensions and the type of vehicle ,i.e. motorhome. They are listed for sale as Xgody 704 7" truck sat navs and sell from anything from £45 to £75.

They all use similar Databases for their size, weight height parameters, they are just legal restrictions, not actual measurements......ie. it can and will, still send you down an unsuitable country lane that is too tight for your vehicle, IF you venture off of its planned 'major roads only' route. Like the last 2 or 3 miles to a countryside site or CL. There has been NO 'laser scanning' of road dimensions, like Google have done with Camera's in 'Google Earth'.

If ever you find one that IS based on actual road dimensions, then let us Know, 'Cause I would buy one.

We used the TomTom Truck nav for two years. The device favoured major roads all the time even though there were perfectly good more direct routes, the result of which was that it took you through the most boring scenery. As has been pointed out the start and end of every trip involved some convoluted narrow roads anyway so we move to a new TomTom Go with lifetime maps, which are more important in our opinion.
