Overnight stay in Lille

I am looking to stay in Lille having got off the ferry at Calais. Can anyone advise a campsite or Aire inor very near Lille?

Camping Car infos does not show anything close to Lille. I have seen Motorhomes parked up in the car park by the Citadelle, it's on the north west side of town just off the D570. It's only a short walk into the centre.

There is a bus (coach) parking area over the back of the carpark.

If you Google Street maps you'll see a few MH parked on Avenue du Petit Paradis (50.64417 3.05049 - as pointed out by lennyhb) just off the main D750 close to the well signposted Citadelle.

 

If you come in on the E42 motorway it's a short drive to the Citadelle and you avoid the City Centre and the narrow roads of the Old Town.

 

It's about a 15 minute stroll, central Lille is as flat as a pancake, to the centre of Lille where most of the big stores and restaurants are waiting for tourists.

 

It's not a bad place to wander around, especially the Old town (Vieux-Lille), and there are plenty of eating places and smaller shops in the Old town to keep you interested.

 

There are morning markets open most days of the week but try and avoid driving on the cobbles of the Old town unless you've fastened your teeth in firmly.

I intended to stay in November but couldn't find anywhere so went on to Arras but since have heard about the canalside parking near the Citadel on Petite Paradise .
