Rayjsj
Welcome, Homecar were imported into the UK by Lunar, a UK manufacturer, they were made in the Netherlands the Tirus group who owned them went bankrupt in 2007/8. Lunar had a management buyout, and are doing well. Not sure about Homecar ?, so the latest produced would be about 2007/8. Don't own one, Lunar are back into Motorhomes though : http://www.lunarcaravans.com/brands/motor-homes is this the one ?: http://www.wiltshiremotorhomes.com/motorhome-sales/second-hand-motorhomes/renault/home-car-pr59-3-berth.asp Regards Ray
Derek Uzzell
There won’t be many “Home-Car”-branded motorhomes in the UK (and even less in Australia I should have thought). If you wanted to discuss the PR59, you might find an owner on the MotorHomeFacts forum http://forums.motorhomefacts.com/152-renault/85891-renault-master-lunar-pr59-motorhome-cam-belt-change.html Home-Car used an unusual method of construction involving AluFiber http://amerimax.elevel.com/Portals/Amerimax/PDFs/Alufiber%20Tech%20Data.pdf and (as far as I’m aware) all Home-Car motorhomes, including the “PR” range, had body-panels with an AluFiber outer skin. flicka
Welcome to the forum Gaz. Homecar habitation equipment will be common to many other Motorhomes, so any questions usually get a response if you state the Equipment make & model i.e. majoriy have Thetford toilets, Dometic Fridges, Truma Heating. colin
Don't forget to try 'proper' Marmite whilst in the UK and not the NZ stuff you get or the young pretender vegemite. http://britishfood.about.com/od/diningdrinkingtradition/a/marmitevvegemite.htm
Brabander
Minor correction: Home Car motorhomes were built in northern Belgium (close to the Dutch border). The Home Car has had various owners, before Home Car production was stopped in 2011) it was owned by a Dutch company. The Home Car mother company also built (or sold) caravans under the Lunar (I assume under license from Lunar in the UK) and Chateau names. Lunar, of course, sold the Home Car motorhomes under their name in the UK. Home Car made fairly solid but unsophisticated motorhomes at relatively low prices but could not compete against the prices charged by the motorhomes built in places such as Slovenia, Spain and Italy where average wages are that much lower. Frankly speaking their were obviously far too many motorhome manufacturers and during the last decade we have seen the inevitable rationalisation. Geeco
By coincidence I am reading this thread while eating my breakfast of two toasted crumpets laden with butter and yes you guessed it Vegemite. In Australia vegemite is more popular than marmite. I like both but always buy Vegemite. Gaz enjoy your journeys around UK if you have as much fun as the co driver and I have had there over the years you will come home very satisfied. If only they could fix the weather!! Derek Uzzell
Some background to the “Home-car” brand is in the following 2008 forum thread (some of the links are no longer valid) http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Homecar/11591/ The Tirus Group manufactured leisure vehicles in Holland and Belgium under the following brand-names - Chateau, Beyerland, Cristall, Delta, Home-Car, Kip and Avento. My understanding is that, prior to a management buy-out, the UK Lunar company was ‘owned’ by Chateau and that all Lunar-branded caravans will have been built in the UK. I believe Home-Car motorhome production continued for a short while (managed by the liquidators) after the parent group went bust. However - as Ray said earlier - no Home-Car motorhome will have been built after 2008.
