Northumberland Campsites

Cliffy

Recommended Posts

We are planning a week in Northumberland in early May, there seems to be plenty of campsites available but I would appreciated a recommendation if anyone could recommend a campsite that is near to reasonably level cycling and public transport.

We have been looking around the Alnwick - Berwick area but are open to suggestions for elsewhere.

Hello Cliffy, Welcome to Northumberland the best kept secret, but unfortunately due to Robson Green not anymore.

Procters stead site at Craister then a walk into craister for the best crab sandwiches etc at the Jolly Fishermen, also good cycling area. Dunstan Hill CCC, also a good location for walking and cycling, walk down to the beach then left to Newton by the Sea to a great pub in a small square or right a good walk to Dunstanburgh castle and beyond to Craister.

Powburn, River Breamish cc site at the foot of the Cheviot Hills with good cycling/walking into Ingram valley beautiful place.

Kielder Water CC site good cycling and walking ( Hexham). Hope this is of some use to you :->

The CCC site at Beadnell is across the road from the beach, plenty of level cycling in the area, and bus stops outside site for journeys to Berwick on tweed and Alnwick in the other direction, all free with a bus pass :D

The CCC site at Beadnell .....

...is the MOST UNAPPEALING site we have EVER stayed at!

We stayed for a few days in August 2012 just as they had opened the large field behind. No mention was made when we booked that the site had quadrupled in size with no change to the facilities. This resulted in overload of all the sites facilities and we were only too glad to leave.

There where also a lot of unruly people on site, even pinching the pictures and pot pourri from the facilities, and the site wardens where fighting a losing battle and we really felt sorry for them.

Unless things have seriously changed we will NEVER go back and it is the only critical review of a site we have ever left.

CAVEAT EMPTOR if you decide to go.

Now Dunstan Hill or Proctors Stead are in a different league :-)

Keith.

Hi, it might be a bit too late for you, but Camping and Caravan club are doing a meet just along the road from the campsite from21 to 31 may..at 8 pound a night. If you are a club member. Own facilities on board needed, but better than poor overcrowded site facilities.

We spent last weekend at Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses. Full service hard standing pitch, right in the town centre. More expensive Friday and Saturday but price included use of their leisure facilities which were excellent. Buses every 2 hours to Newcastle via Alnwick or Berwick. Walk to Bamburgh Castle 4 mile. We will go again as scenery was magnificent.
