Draught skirt rail rubber insert replacement on motorhome

Hi everyone, I don't know if this subject has been covered before so if it has, many apologies! My husband and I have had a 1996 Swift Royale motorhome for several years. The rubber insert, which covers the screws holding the aluminium draught skirt rail to the van, has understandably shrunk in the sun and my husband would like to replace it. We have enquired at our local Motorhome and Caravan dealers but they said they have nothing of this type at all and weren't able to suggest a supplier. It doesn't help that we don't know exactly what this rubber insert is called! Someone did mention that it was Herzim but when we looked on the internet at photographs of Herzim we found that it was not the same as that fitted on our motorhome. We are hoping that someone may be able to point us in the right direction, either with the correct name of this rubber insert or with a possible supplier. Many thanks.

Hello Gilly, if it was with the van from new there are many years past where manufacturer could have closed or changed name via take-over, etc.. This link may provide a possible solution if you can't see on standard product lists you may be able to send them a short sample to see if they can match.

Hi, Many thanks for replying and for the useful contact details. Hubbie has decided to take a photograph of the rubber strip and email it to Seals Direct at New Milton in the hope that they can advise us. They certainly seem to have a wide selection of rubber inserts, etc!

So thank you very much for your help.

If possible take some measurements, as some of the moldings look the same BUT are different dimensions. OR if you can cut a bit off and send it?? much better idea

PS colour also important, although as yours has probably faded may not match any way.

We will definitely take some measurements but we are reluctant to cut off any as, if we can't find a replacement, we will be left with a larger gap at the end of the rail - it has already shrunk back a good 2"! As we live in Devon we could visit Seals Direct at New Milton on a day trip and take the entire side strip up with us as my husband has had to remove it to undertake some water ingress remedial work!!! A new strip isn't essential but it would be nice to finish off the job!

Thank you for all your help.

Good idea if you can take it with you. If you do decide to go, I would phone first to make sure some-one will be there, as unless it has moved , we went to a private house! Well worth the trip , and if doing a lot of work on van, you may see other seals that would be useful

We contacted Seals + Direct today, emailing a couple of photographs for their information. Heard back very quickly from Phil Howard there who told us that they did not have an exact copy of our rubber insert but did suggest another which we looked up on his website. However this was £87.20 for 10 metres! However, Phil did come up with another option and that was to put our existing insert into a bath of hot water and stretch it whilst it was hot and we should be able to regain the 2" or so which we have lost through shrinkage. A very helpful chap! So we shall try that but if that doesn't work we will follow up the other leads you have all given us.

Thank you all for your help!

Thought you would be interested to know that Seals + Direct are now at Unit 6 Milton Business Centre so guess they have moved out of the private house! Might well still go up there as we need a new weatherstrip seal for the habitation door although hubbie doesn't think this will be as problematic as the draught skirting rail insert!! At least we know where to start looking this time! Thank you for your help.

Glad you got some help. Nice to know they must have expanded the business, as they did have a lot in the shed he used. Helpful guy, and good to patronise these small enterprises. It was maybe 3/4 years ago when we went there
