robertandjean
Sat outside our van, in glorious sunshine enjoying an apperatif before wandering up the road to partake of a nice meal in a restaurant in town, just wonder what the cons of this aire are? First things first, we are on the aire at Port Louis in southern Brittany (aire de ramparts to be precise). It is right next to town with restaurants, three tried already, and interesting shops out one side aire whilst ramparts, beach and bus stop out other side. There is much to see in area all linked by bus and ferries plus excellent coastal walks. Aire itself has hook ups to each pitch, plus easy to use emptying point etc. It used to be part of adjacent camp sire so some of pitches are as was on camp site whilst central area is more informal. Cost now is 5€/night raising to 10€/night in summer. No time limit on how long you can stay. So what is not to like. Well aire is full most nights, so do need to arrive by say 5pm; parking in central area can be fairly close, so might not suit some, but is certainly not of the past the salt genre. Pitches are on grass but is very firm under. Major problem however is that only one water tap supervised for fresh water and toilet emptying. We always treat our tank water and tend to use bottled water for drinking so not problem for us. Today problem solved somewhat as French long term vanners on here have made and fixed a device over tap to prevent contamination by toilet. Hope this is not seen as too much of a rose coloured view. PJay
Sailed there many years ago, and sat watching a dolphin swimming around the harbour. There where some good restaurants there then Maybe we will have a look this year when coming back through Brittany, though probably won't stay, as we have friends in Brittany to visit.
