Where's Trackers moderation poll gone?

Guest peter

Recommended Posts

When it went I asked Duncan why and what we had done wrong and was advised that there is a fault in the system and whilst it was being moved from Motorhome Matters to Your views it simply evaporated.

So much for beam me up Scotty then - I wonder if it would work on politicians - now there's a thought!!

Duncan also apologised and said that there was nothing at all wrong with the thread or poll and suggested that I restart it in Your Views, however part of the bug also seems to be that whilst the click on boxes containing 'new thread' and 'new poll' are present on every other section of the forum they are missing from the Your Views section page - or they are on my computer - so I have been unable to resuscitate the poll.

I advised Duncan of this and he said that he will get the techy types to investigate asap.

We are away from tomorrow so anyone please feel free to restart the poll and/or the discussion on the merits or otherwise of moderation because at the last count it had about 190 views in 4 hours and about 9 responses of varying opinions with the actual votes going 15 to 3 in favour of the forum having been improved since moderation started.

I still find it hard to believe that 3 people are not in favour of the moderation in it's current form and appear to prefer the old style of virtually no moderation? Takes all sorts I guess!

It's good to see that Peter's dreadful avavtar photo seems to have been Duncked too - must have been seen to be in poor taste - unlike my own of course!

Thanks Richard, I didn't even know about the Your Views forum.

I've had a look and sure enough the "missing" threads are there.

It would be nice if notice was given about the move though.

I was starting to get a bit paranoid. :D

On your computer are the two blue boxes for new threads and new polls visible as without these it is impossible to start a new thread in Your Views and they are both missing from my version?

There have been occasions when Duncan has mentioned moving threads but they didn't always reappear so I think that rather than censorship it is more a case of problems with the technology - now where have I heard that before!

Surely you didn't expect a fan of Voltaire to vote for moderation Rich? ;-) ............

Just to update this. If anything needs to be moved out of Motorhome Matters, it will be put into Chatterbox. Same with Tracker's poll, it needs to go here. Because of the way the Your Views part of the forum is programmed only moderators can start new threads there.

That's interesting ;-) ..........a forum titled "Your views" wont allow you to start a thread giving your view (lol) ......

But doesn't stop you giving your views or asking other people for theirs.

I see no problem with that.

In theory people should behave nicely to each other and not steal from others or break the speed limit or any of the other laws that govern our conduct. That's theory of course and as we know many don't behave properly. That's why we must have laws, otherwise there would be anarchy.

It's no different on forums. Free rein could result in racist or homophobic comments or libellous ones, which is why moderation is as essential on a forum as laws are in a country.

This is Warners' forum. It's free and how it's run is entirely up to them. If they've decided that this forum needs stricter moderation in order to encourage more members that's there prerogative and it's pointless constantly whinging about it. Anyone who doesn't like it is free to leave. And it's clear from the short time that Tracker's poll was extant that the vast majority approve of the new policy.

As for: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

Anyone who knows Voltaire would never attribute this to him, as he never said it. It's one of the great literary myths.

A site that has no moderation may also be open to those individuals who feel the need to always be right and who may ' put down ' other members who comment and then don't come back , so I say Duncan is right in his handling of the moderation and this has thankfully lead to certain individuals forceful posting manner been toned down .... Well done Duncan

Spot on Antony, could not agree more the tighter moderation certainly does seem to have forced certain contributors to be less devisive.

I don't think you have read the full heading under " Your Views "

They invite us to " Vote on OUR monthly hot topic " - i.e. Vote on a topic of interest to Warners.

Clearly that is not an invite to start our own topics in that section - which, I would have thought, is unnecessary anyway when there are a number of other sections where we can do that..

Indeed Malc...........I just found it ironic that Duncan was moving threads to a section called "Your Views" ................although folk can't start a thread there ;-)...........

It was indeed. The original intention of the section was to poll readers for their views, but it hasn't been used for a while. It should really have been called 'We want your views'. Anyway, the web team tell me they can change it so that is under consideration.

I wouldn't do that if I were you Duncan, or we'll be subjected to polls on aires, generators, PVCs versus coachbuilts, dogs , cats, budgies and lord knows what else.

All of which will lead to " utter chaos " - as a politician would say.

Given that I don't get paid overtime, you've just made the decision an easy one..... It can stay as it is.

So looking after forum old fogies..... after hours and at weekends is Warners version of care in the community? B-) .............Or are we we part of a sociological experiment? :D .................

in the grand scheme of things important and trivial it matters little either way as those who wish their views to be felt by others will always find a way regardless if what others think.

Greetings from Delft on a lovely bright wet Sunday!

Hi Tracker,

Thanks for your hospitality at Peterborough. I have been a bit busy since.

I have just finished a job best not tried at home but I did. One new front spring for the LT. The pattern spring was fine but some of its extra bits were unusable with genuine VW parts required. Phew.

Hi George,

It was very good to meet you too for a natter.

I hesitate to question your mechanical knowledge but I'm a bit surprised you replaced just one spring - I always considered that springs, like brakes, especially front ones, are best replaced as a matched pair?

But I do agree it really is a fun job!
