We are off to Northern Spain Next week, it will be the first time we have been to mainland Spain in 30 Years. When we were there then it was a complete no no drink the tap water and don't have ice in your drinks.

Is it the same now? Also should we wash fruit and veg in bottled water or would it be OK to use fresh tap water from a campsite tap?

Things have changed a bit since then, they even have electricity now! Seriously though, the water's just fine and we've never had a problem.

A lot of sites have 2 supplies. One on the pitch which is usually from a well and not potable and another supply from a separate tap marked accordingly. But many have potable water on the pitch.

Drinking water in Spain and especially Northern Spain is fine possibly even of a better quality than the UK. I don't think the Spanish in Northern Spain drink as much recycled sewage as we do in the UK. This is an extract from the Thames Water website:

"8. Water use

Baths, showers, washing up, cleaning clothes and flushing the toilet all use large amounts of water. Once you have used the water, it turns into ‘wastewater’, which we then collect, transport, treat and return safely back to the environment."

And here from Wikipedia:

"Reclaimed water or recycled water, is former wastewater (sewage) that is treated to remove solids and impurities, and used in sustainable landscaping irrigation, to recharge groundwater aquifers, to meet commercial and industrial water needs, and for drinking".

Drinking Spanish water is not a problem. However, as with the Uk the area where you are can have a difference. For example in the south east of Spain there is a lot of limestone and if you use the tap water in the kettle it very rapidly furs up. For that reason we tend to use bottled water for making tea and drinking. It is very cheap so why not? It probably costs us about 10 cents per day.
