Any other citizen is entitled to write to or lobby the Government to express their concerns so why should the future King not be allowed to? That is democracy!

What is not democracy is private confidential letters being published for financial gain.

Perfect it ain't but in general our Royalty, the envy of the free world, works just fine in this country and the Commonwealth (which is voluntary).

I like the way our voting system works too - but then again as Royalist Tory voter I would wouldn't I!!

.......how Charlie lobbies the Government ..... http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/may/13/prince-charles-black-spider-memos-published-after-10-year-legal-battle

I see no reason why he shouldn't give his views to the government.

The ' concern ' that I've seen expressed by various commentators is what ministers do when they get such letters.

If they just read them, along with everyone elses' letters, and just note the contents - that's fine.

If they jump to it and do whatever he wishes - that's not.

If you or I wrote those letters they would be subject to the Freedom of Information Act and visible for all to see - why has the Government spent £400,000 of our money to stop us seeing his letters?

our Royalty, the envy of the free world,

Where is your evidence of that?

Military spending benefits the rich more than the poor. If you are living in a cardboard box on the street you have little to lose from a foreign invasion, and would prefer some of Britain's Military Budget - the biggest in Europe, to go on homeless shelters and foodbanks. Wheras if you are Prince Charles with half a dozen palaces you have a lot to lose from a foreign invasion. So its no surprise Charlie wants even more of our money, which we haven't got and have to borrow, spent on the military - but should our UNELECTED and UNACCOUNTABLE representatives be telling our elected representatives what to do - in SECRET?

How will we know that if his letters, unlike ours, are kept secret?

I reckon they keep 'em secret because he keeps complaining to the government on behalf of people living on the streets in cardboard boxes - and that would embarrass the politicians.

our Royalty, the envy of the free world,

Where is your evidence of that?

As there would be no chance of any financial gain, any letters that you or I wrote would, as you say, be open to public scrutiny - plus nobody would give a toss anyway?

For proof - just look at the way members of the Royal family are greeted and treated in any one of the dozens of countries that they visit every year.

No doubt you'll have the opportunity to vote YES soon, then you can swap our unelected monarchy for your elected Queen Nicola :D .............Plus Faslane can be relocated at one of the English naval basis that they closed down in favour of keeping jobs North of the border :-S .........

If your living on the street in a cardboard box then chances are your a drunk / dropout / jock / nutcase .. Take your pick

Where are all these food banks ? I ain't seen any and I live in the shotholes of Huddersfield , bet those who benefit from em still have a phone and fags and booze ... Load of crap and anyone who gives to em is thick as ... Plenty of help in the real world for the real needy ...

Most of em in cardboard boxes are jocks so hopefully now Scotlandshire is a top destination and fun place to live since Krankie rode into town they might swap the cider for a train ticket back

Just been talking to a local in St Ives who told me they had been asking Cornwall council for years for repairs to the rusty old railings on the seafront. Suddenly they were all replaced with new Stainless Steel ones - he said we all thought that at last the council was listening to us. They 2 weeks later there was a surprise visit by the Queen. Its a standing joke amongst the locals that since the new railings are only bolted down they will probably disappear overnight to the next place the Queen visits. But it shows why people are pleased to get a Royal visit Like Ireland where her visit was preceded by a £5 billion 'loan' from the British Taxpayer to the Irish Government *-)

Can all the Sea Lochs their nuclear subs use be relocated at Southampton as well. *-) Or will we see more ships suddenly and unexplainedly developing a 30% list and a 2 mile Naval exclusion zone being declared around them *-)

The last foreign power that intended to invade UK also had a record for herding up what was deemed " undesirable elements that included Jews, beggers ,the insane, gypsies" of society and getting rid of them in a "final solution".

The rich usually manage to get out in time, although I doubt if many of the European aristocracy that survived WW2 only to find themselves on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain still thought they had done well. The aftermath of war is chaos.

Call it an educated guess ... Having rented houses to the needy on the social I have enjoyed first hand the take away booze filled lives they lead with all the latest gizmos at tax payers expense so I'd imagine if it's a toss up between a packet of fags for em or some grub at the drop in center some mugs donated then the fags come first and then go fill ya face with donated grub ... Mugs

Probably worse than if we hadn't declared war on Germany, and just let Hitler & Stalin annihilate each other.

We pretend it was worthwhile to 'justify' the huge cost.

But that encourages more wars

So I think we should be honest about it.

We saved Stalin, who was worse than Hitler. :-(

So on the basis of some people you have seen, who may or may not use foodbanks, you would deny foodbanks to others?

I don't live in a fairytale make believe world like yourself , I see what I see and I have never seen anyone poor enough through normal living in this country that needs food banks

Drunks , druggies , those who do not give a stuff may use food banks and as long as food banks exist they will laugh at the mugs who donate food as it means they can carry on drinking , drugging or not giving a stuff as food will be provided by mugs
