tonyg3nwl
Hi folks, a hypothetical situation..what happens about vehicle insurance if a fatal happening occurs to the policy holder not related to an accident..illness for instance.. if policy holder is deceased, is policy named second driver still covered or is policy no longer valid. anyone know the answer.. my guess is that second driver would not be covered but would have to notify insurance company to transfer or take out a new policy in their own name. any legal experts out there? peterjl
Hi I am no expert but surely in an event of this nature your travel insurance cuts in. Peter

tonyg3nwl
I specifically asked re motor insurance, not holiday insurance,, that obviously will be activated, but when I queried in the unlikely even arising, would surviving partner be expected to drive home, the reply was if they are on policy as second driver, then yes they would be expected to drive vehicle back to uk..but the question specifically concerns at what point does motor insurance cease. and be assured, I certainly have no intention of trying to prove or otherwise which is correct response, but it came up in family discussion yesterday. tonyg3nwl. Keithl
Tony, We had exactly this situation recently in my family when my Father passed away. My Mother contacted his insurance company and was expecting the policy to be transferred to her name but they could not do it. They gave her 7 days (from memory) to arrange cover in her own name after which they refunded the balance remaining on the old policy. HTH, Keith. the general
Yes if two named on insurance , and one passes on( the principle driver ) the insurance is invalid and the second named driver is not covered I learnt from experience . That is car insurance .
colin
When my father died I was named driver and IIRC was given 1 month of insurance.

I was talking to Comfort about this today. when renewing my polich My wife is a named driver (who has never in nine years driven our motorhomes). With the policy, if something happened to me when away and I was unable to drive, she would be expected to drive home. If I removed her from the policy they would supply a chauffeur. As there is no difference in premium with her on or off, I removed her.
