Tea man
Has anyone gone through the somport tunnel from Spain to france this year. Is there a toll for a motorhome or is it free. Thanks for your help
Guest pelmetman
We came that way in April, and don't recall paying a toll anywhere ;-) .............although I was quite surprised how noncommercial the French side was, but then I recalled the cost of living difference based on the leveling influence of the euro (lol) ............ hallii
It's free, a bit dark and smelly and quite long. Infinitely better than "going over the top" I did that once! H
sshortcircuit
Agree with all above. Fill up with fuel at Canfranc as cheap. If you come via Jaca have the camera ready as you will see some spectacular scenery and you are not able to stop. Amazingly when we passed through two months ago we counted a total of 7 vehicles coming towards us.

Guest JudgeMental
I came back via somport the other week... its a good direct route and you miss A63 tolls. French side roads poor, Spanish side fine. wil def use again. Not so sure what its like in winter though. Eddie

trickydicky
We have used the tunnel every winter for 5 years now, never had a problem ourselves but friends were turned away by police in January because they didn't have snow chains and it was snowing heavily. Guest pelmetman
Can't say I'd fancy it in winter unless the forecast was good :-S .........
PJay
We have used tunnel several times, good route on the Spanish side, and not so bad if coming from Pau/Oleron ST Marie Used a new route this time 2 weeks ago, as we where further east in France, Came from Montjean, stayed night in ACSI site there, a shorter tunnel (on Spainish side)amd a pretty route through the Pyrenees, will most likely go back via Somprt, as avoids the toll road in France PJay
