Croatia

Hi All

Looking to prepare our September trip and choice seems to come down to either Budapest or Croatia. We know a bit about Hungary but nothing at all about Croatia. What's to see, what's to do, particularly if you are not into sunbathing by the beach / pool all day- we are more into walking round churches, historical sites etc.

Obviously we would use ACSI wherever possible but any suggestions on route, sites, places to see much appreciated

Thanks in advance

bob

plenty of history and lovely Venetian towns....You can go via Germany, drop down through Austria - Slovenia. Or from Italy...go one way, go back the other... take you pick.can even take in Budapest on the way if you wish.....

want beauty and history galore, Italy - Tuscany ferry from Ancona - Split and tour up. Do not miss a day at Plitvicka lakes (spellin alert!)

You don't need to be a beach bum to appreciate Croatia.....just hug the coast road as far as you want to go as the views of the Adriatic are not to be missed, particularly anywhere the road climbs high up giving brilliant photo opportunities. There are plenty of places to pull in off the road. It's not a cheap country though.....they long clicked on to tourism and make damn good money from the many who pour in each year!

We had a great time in Croatia last year.

I'm surprised by your comment that you know nothing about the country yet are considering going. We found it most useful to look at a guide book before we went. Why not see if your local library has a copy of the relevant "Lonely Planet" or "Rough Guide" then go through it and identify the places which appeal to you.?

I would also recommend that you look on the Caravan Club Club Together forum as there has been quite an amount about Croatia.

We are hopefully on way to Croatia end of the month. Currently in Italy. I love croatia. Places to visit inland are Plitvica lakes. Get there really early and park van then at end of day drive to the nearby campsite as there was plenty of room there when we went during June. We also walked into pltlanica (spelling)national park on coast north of zadar opposite Pag island. Krka national park is another and there are 2 campsites side by side there which are very reasonable and run mini bus trips to the park daily. Well worth the money as you would never get to some of the places yourself. We hope to do the konatik islands (spelling?) This year which are an arcapelligo island group so looking forward to that. The coastline is stunning. The high mountains come down to the coast and there are islands everywhere you look out to sea. Dubrovnik we loved and stayed just north of it on campsite and caught bus in. Brilliant.you should enjoy croatia. Sorry no names of sites but sitting out in sun now enjoying
