Auto Clutch

Hi, Looking for any information on the auto clutch, we are thinking of having one fitted to our Elnagh Dinghy1 on a Ducato as my husband is disabled and is struggling with the clutch pedal, has anyone had one fitted and if so how reliable are they, how easy to use when manouvering. Many thanks.

Hi,

We had auto clutch fitted to our last van and used it everyday for around eight years, it works fine although not as good as a proper auto box.

We have just taken delivery of a new coachbuilt van and only Friday made enquiries at a local fitting specialist to have a new auto clutch fitted.

I find it difficult using the clutch due to damage to my left leg twelve years ago, though I thought that I would try without first, but it is painful to drive in start stop situations.

I have to wait to hear from them as the van we have bought is on the very latest peugeot boxer and the fitter couldn't find the alternator (dosen't bode well dose it?) however, they have taken photographs and are talking to the main supplier and will get back to me.

But yes it helps a lot.

We have had an auto clutch for 3 yrs. Took some getting used to but great now. The problem I have is reversing, it works like a micro switch so you don't have the clutch control making revering more difficult. Other than that it is fine and I could not drive the van without it. It is great when in traffic.

Hi in slow traffic it is fine and this is when I need it most of all, reversing can be a little temperamental, I tend to either turn it off and go manual or leave it on and use my foot to smooth it out, to park at home I need to reverse into a space outside my house and it is up a bit of a slope with other cars parked can be a bit of a tight spot.. never a problem if the reversing space is on the flat though.

Basically you have bought the wrong van.

The Auto clutch is an early version of the automated conventional gearbox and clutch gearbox now available from new on most makes of LCV apart from Mercedes Benz who use a fluid coupling instead of friction clutch.

The Auto clutch will greatly assist anyone having trouble with a conventional clutch pedal.
