Derek Uzzell
The 2005 original of my “Gas in Europe” posting is here http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Gas-in-Europe/2819/#M7012 10 years ago use of user-refillable gas-bottles by motorcaravanners was less popular than nowadays, but inquiries about how best to maintain/replenish a motorhome’s gas reserves when travelling outside the UK were just as common. The objectives of the original posting are explained in the first paragraph of this related 2005 thread http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Gas-in-Europe-comments/2818/#M7042 Updating the original took minimal effort on my part, so I’m not concerned if the little time spent was wasted. yoko8pups
JudgeMental - 2015-06-25 6:58 PM yoko8pups - 2015-06-25 6:47 PM I'm interested in this subject so I don't mind how much I read. Judgemental where can I get a bottle for £108? Does that include fitting? The gaslow website implies it is more than that but maybe there are other suppliers of refillable bottles who are as good and cheaper. At the moment I am torn between bringing a light BP bottle to England in October and asking a registered fitter to install it correctly, and buying an LPG system as we have a garage which sells it very close to us, so does anyone know where can I find a list of registered fitters. Derek, thank you for your useful post to me. GasIt. that price of 1 x 11Kg bottle. best buy the kit. can fit external filler and a BBQ point if you wish...Come on live a little you know it makes sense :D http://www.gasit.co.uk/index.php?_a=product&product_id=261 Thanks And will they fit it? Derek Uzzell
yoko8pups FES Autogas (the company behind “GASIT”) are based in Caernafon in north-west Wales. I think the company supplies products retail and trade but does not offer fitting services. The easiest way for you to confirm that’s so would be for you to ask them. Contact details are here http://www.gasit.co.uk/index.php?_a=category&cat_id=62 A UK company that also supplies refillable gas-bottles and tanks, and claims to offer fitting services, is Autogas 2000 Ltd based near Thirsk in north Yorkshire. http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/motorhome-caravan-accessories-12-c.asp Their website is simpler to navigate than the GASIT one and a ‘kit’ for a single 11kg refillable bottle is offered at £170.82 http://www.autogasshop.co.uk/rv-11kg-motorhome-refillable-single-steel-gas-bottle-kit-964-p.asp The kit would need to be tailored to your Hymer motorhome and you’d need to add the cost of adapters to permit refilling in Portugal, plus the installation cost (£100?). If you budgeted for £300 overall, that should be enough. You’ve said earlier that there is a garage close to you in Portugal that sells these systems. Assuming that you are in Portugal most of the time, if you want a refillable system it would seem better sense to explore having it fitted locally. Any subsequent problems should then be more easily resolvable. (I would have thought that any garage competent to fit refillable gas systems should have no difficulty whatsoever in advising you on what’s needed to use your Portuguese “Gas Light” bottles safely in your Hymer motorhome and (quite probably) could supply off-the-shelf any parts required to do this.)
