Reversing camera system

Hi all, I am looking for some advice on wireless reversing cameras, I want to fit a camera to the rear of my caravan. I need a simple system with monitor plugs in to cigarette lighter socket, & camera connected to the reverse light of van. Any information or recommendations from reversing camera users will be very much appreciated.

Personally I would go for a wired system, all the reports I have heard of wireless systems have not been good ones. A good wired system need not be expensive, most of the wiring is hidden under the van.We had a twin camera wired system fitted for about £200, works perfectly. Ray

I have just fitted a cheap wireless system on mine (£10 cam £30 wifi), nothing at all to put me off using again just get a camera without the graphics on

Maybe those who got wireless setup used a generic wireless monitor with inferior wifi. I use my phone or 7inch tablet and know the wifi is good

An option for the poster would be to buy the number plate bulb holder with camera built in, rather than high up the body of the van to make it easier to install.

I bought one of the cheapie wireless sets off a well known auction site. it cost me around £50 and included the camera and screen which is a satnav as well.

I think it's great. easy install, works fine.

true, I don't think you'd call it cinema quality. but it does what I ask.

only downside to the wireless has been when my satnav switches over to somebody else's rear view. but that has only been twice.

I've got a WiFi one that connects to my phone (after about 20 seconds and then a have to dismiss the internet error message) but the most annoying feature is that it keeps freezing for several seconds at a time making it useless. I've removed it at present and am thinking of putting it high up on the van so the reception is better.

If buying again I'd go for wired.

Hi

Thanks to all.

After all because of reversing safely importance I have spent some time to ring around the local specialists in Melbourne and googled a few places and found industry professionals recommended a wired 4 pin reversing system due to its thick cabling , heavy duty 4 pin connection system and heavy duty camera design over a wireless option. (People didn’t like that for some reason)

I went to a local company to me called PPA car audio who I have seen sell this product. In the matter of 10 minutes of discussions, they were able to point me in the right direction, were able to arrange to come to my house and install it to my Toyota Land cruiser and caravan.

The installation process took 3 hours and I must say I was happy with the result. They offered me a reversing camera and screen package with 2 cameras where one was pointing to my tow ball and the other was installed behind the caravan. They both had night vision. It’s made reversing so much safer!

Here is a link to their web site

Must be an app on your phone looking for the internet when on wifi.

My phone must heck for an internet connection too but I dont get any error message, not had an issue at all with it running.

I do think that if used in car and caravan there might be more lag where wired will be best. Apart from this I don't see why anyone would opt for wired over wifi nowadays but each to their own and I understand it can cut out any potential problems.
