peterjl
Hi I have a few days available to pop across channel in December. I beleive there are christmas markets in Bruge and else where. Does anyone have details, or a source for details (my google search threw up some very peculiar results) + details of campsites etc. Many thanks Peter
Way2Go
I don't know of any camp sites but you are correct that Bruges does indeed have a Christmas Market . . . . in fact it has two recognised ones including a temporary skating ring.Christmas Markets take place all over Belgium, France and Germany. The best ones are in some of the smaller Germany towns but if you don't have time to go down that far, checkout Lille which has a big Ferris Wheel in the main square.Checkout some of these links:-http://www.germany-christmas-market.org.uk/index1.htmhttp://www.christmasmarkets.co.uk/http://us.franceguide.com/France-s-famous-Christmas-markets-are-revived-this-season.html?nodeID=&EditoID=34767http://www.leisuredirection.co.uk/HOD/SHO/XMFhttp://www.drive-alive.co.uk/christmas_markets.html
mom
Hello Peter...My wife and I visited Brugge (spelt 3 different ways to avoid confusion!) the Christmas before last. It was the stuff of fairy tales, wandering the market in the old town square, the buildings washed in golden golden light, snow on the ground and a mug of hot wine to warm the spirits. We truly fell in love with the place, especially at Christmas. We camped at Camping Memling, which is officially 2 km (1 and a bit miles) from the town centre, but an easy flat walk that didn't seem that far.Look at http://www.camping-memling.be/ and choose english if you don't speak Flemish!Below is a scrape of a tourist website for camping memling.Regards, momOpen all year.80 camping sites from which 50 are acceptable for short stays.32 spots have power points.Caravans and bungalows for hire.Washing machines and dryers. We accept Visa and Eurocard.Quiet, woodlands location 2 km from the centre of Bruges. Take the Bruges ring road and follow the N9 to Maldegem, turning right at the second traffic light.Coming from Antwerp, take the Maldegem Bruges exit after Kennedy tunnel (A11 Zelzate Hulst) and turn left at the traffic lights in Bruges.Camping MemlingVeltemweg 1098310 Sint Kruis BruggeTel : 3250355845Fax : 3250357250
net-traveller
For campsites check out http://www.eurocampings.co.uk/en For Xmas markets try the tourist board sites of the relevant countries. Just about every town in Germany has them and there is also a very well known one in Valkenberg Holland. You may also want to look at Out & About mag for a selection in France. Tony Jones
We went to an excellent one at BETHUNE a couple of years ago, and I understand it's still running (not continuously of course, just in season!). I use Google for this, but if you type it in French ("marches de noel" in quotes) you should get a better set of results. Have a great time! boxsterboy
Stuttgart also has an excellent Christmas market, if you're going that far.
