rolyk
My six year old 3 button remote control key fob was looking a bit tatty so, for less than a fiver, I bought a new plastic shell case which is identical to the original. I transferred the pcb, ignition blade and battery holder to the new shell. Going out to the van the remote operated the doors as before, but putting the key in the ignition the immobiliser light stayed on and the van wouldn't start. The spare key worked fine. Putting all the bits back in the original fob it worked perfectly. I'm at a loss to understand why this should be and if anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to hear from them. Gram
Presumably your new shell didn't contain the coil or chip that is recognised by the immobiliser when you put the key in the ignition. G
rolyk
I've found the transponder in the original fob. It looks like a fragile small glass phial about 6mm long. But it's bedded in a clear sealant and looks difficult to remove without damaging it. So I've decided to stick with the original as it's not worth the risk. witzend
What can be done is locate old key inside the steering housing close enough to the switch for the immobilizer to read it then use the new key
