suntrecker38
I have a Autocruise Stardream with a Alko chassis which is similar to a caravan rubber torsion, but the M/H is a bit low at the back end, as anyone replaced the shock absorbers on this type of chassis? Shock absorbers have nothing to do with ride height and replacing them will not correct it. The Strardream has torsion bar rear suspension and you need to get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing.
markh1
I also have a stardream on an alko chassis, I find that the van rides fairly level, not nose down rear up like MH's on a van chassis, it's lower than a van chassis too, the torsion bars should be okay unless they been under undue load for a long time, like a scooter rack, for instance
Rayjsj
I had a Starburst, which too had the Alko super low line chassis. It is not 'Rubber based' as you state, but uses steel torsion bars in the axle tube. These bars need periodic greasing, high pressure gun with weight off of the rear wheels.Otherwise they can corrode and break, which would be the same as a broken spring ! giving the type of symptoms you describe. The torsions bars govern the height, if it is down at the rear they are certainly not ok. Exactly what is wrong will require an inspection but will probably be pretty expensive. Brian Kirby
suntrecker38 - 2015-08-31 12:08 PM I have a Autocruise Stardream with a Alko chassis which is similar to a caravan rubber torsion, but the M/H is a bit low at the back end, as anyone replaced the shock absorbers on this type of chassis? I agree with Rupert123, replacing the shock absorbers won't make any difference. Your best bet will be to contact AlKo Kober Ltd ( http://www.al-ko.co.uk ) technical, and ask if they can point you to an AlKo AMC chassis specialist near to where you live. However, if the rear only runs low when the van is loaded, have you taken it to a weighbridge to check its actual laden weight, plus the load on each axle? It could just be that the rear axle is overloaded, which would be much easier and certainly far, far, cheaper than work to correct problems with the torsion rods. Simple first? :-D

I guess what I meant was if there's a busted torsion bar it'd be down on the bump stops and you'd really know about it then, if it's gone on one side it'd be lopsided too
