Parking at Dunkirk port

The DFDS website’s Port Information webpage for the Dunkirk Ferry Port

carries the following caveat:

"IMPORTANT INFORMATION - DUNKIRK PORT

??Please be aware that important refurbishment work is currently underway as we improve the rest room facilities at the passenger terminal at the Port of Dunkirk. Temporary facilities are available while these essential works are taking place. We apologies for any inconvenience to our customers during the upgrade.?“

Some recent-ish Dunkirk-related forum comments can be found here

There doesn’t seem to be any on-line indication that vehicle-parking at the Dunkirk ferry port is currently problematical, but if you’ve heard something to suggest it is (and you think the source is credible) it would be sensible to try to establish the parking situation with DFDS’s Customer Service.

Posted this early December (overnight parking at Dunkirk)

Recently went across to France and parked overnight in the DFDS terminal car park at Dunkirk.

The whole parking area is undergoing a big reorganisation and looks like a building site.

On return to Dunkirk for my journey home to the U.K. this week (December 3rd) the parking area was busy with all manner of vehicles associated with the extending of the car park – little space left for parking a motor home. So decided that the Gravalines Aire was the best option for overnight.

It looks like the terminal car park is being extended, has anyone knowledge of the future plans?

  • 4 months later...

We have recently used the Dover to Dunkirk route, and were surprised how simple it was and total lack of any controls on leaving the ferry.

The exit is clearly signed and I had preset the Satnav as we were heading to Neufchatel, and I didn't want to use toll roads, so did a 'via of St Omer. we were off the ferry and well on our way within 10 mins. The only checks we found were on the UK embarkation side, but these were minimal and took very few minutes.

We returned via Roscoff to Plymouth, and even there the procedure was very easy and quick, with only one check for passports and tickets, and seemingly no other security checks, though these may have been random when in the queue rather than at any specific check point.

Even getting off at Plymouth there were three customs posts open, so once again it was pretty quick, though admittedly with the MH, we were ahead of the queue of cars descending from the ramp on the ferry...
