boxerbob62
Hi every one, is it possible to upgrade a 3.2 gvw up to 3.5 gvw ,is it worth the hassle or maybe its quite an easy changeover ? The reason I am asking is that today I took my ducato to a weighbridge tare weight was 2.94kgs -- that was with a half tank of fuel and 1/4 tank of water .Look forward to any replies *-)

flicka
A quick check of the individual axle weights v the MAM will show what can be achieved relatively easily. BUT the individual axle weights WILL STILL be applicable. If the weighbridge ticket shows an axle weight is close to or over it's limit, first check if weight can be redistributed in the van. Could be just a paper exercise - SV Tech are one of the companies who would be able to advise feasibility, costs & procedures. If you want to go above the combined individual axle weights then it will be a more complicated matter. Brakes & suspension uprating need to be taken into consideration. Derek Uzzell
bolero boy - 2016-02-05 8:32 PM ...bit more detail please, which converter, which model, what year etc... More details here http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/new-to-me-/40211/ but, realistically, it’s unlikely that a definitive answer could be provided on a motorhome forum as to whether uprating the motorhome from 3200kg to 3500kg would be straightforward and/or inexpensive. (Uprating to 3400kg might well be a better proposition, as that weight was more of a ‘norm’ than 3500kg for that vintage of Ducato.) As flicka advises, the best way forward would be to research this initially with SVTech http://www.svtech.co.uk/ Details of an alternative company (run by Mr John Ruffles) that has assisted motorhome owners with the uprating process are here https://www.yell.com/biz/j-r-consultancy-bury-st-edmunds-6681625/
Randonneur
We have recently uprated our Auto-Trail Tracker from 3300kgs to 3500kgs with no problems at all. This was done by Mr Ruffles at J. R. Consultancy. Then forwarded the paperwork to DVLA and received the new V5. This was all done within about a 6 week period and that was over Christmas. boxerbob62
Hi bolero, thanks for your interest (and to other people) the van was first registered in 2003-- but having made enquiries I was told it could possibly be 2 years older than shown -- it was converted with a dethleffs habitation area ,the model is a globetrotter esprit. it has air suspension bags fitted to the rear axle. the base van itself is a fiat ducato with a 2.8 jtd engine.it is also a l.h.d.hope this helps ! look forward to your reply. :-)
