denkate Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hi All, Happy new year (Better late than never) I am thinking of buying a new Chausson 628EB at the NEC next week i have just sold a Chausson Flash 04 , I like the layout in it ,an island bed large garage and drop down bed . I have looked for a second hand one but none around (found one in Germany a good price but left hand drive) I don’t mind a left hand drive as most of our holidays are aboard. Does anyone know of a second hand one if so could you let me know, thanks in anticipation Dennis?
Dave225 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Highbridge are offering a new one if it is of interest.
Derek Uzzell Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Dennis The Chausson 628EB is offered on a Fiat Ducato or a Ford Transit base. http://www.chausson-motorhomes.com/modele/628eb-2/ Which version are you considering buying?
Chauser Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Hi Dennis If you are buying a NEW Chausson be prepared for a long wait while it is built. Apparently Chausson are a bit busy at the moment. I bought a 620 Welcome at the October show and the best date that they can give so far for arrival is May time. Typically French!
Derek Uzzell Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 An estimated seven months between ordering a new motorhome and taking delivery is nothing unusual and definitely not unique to French converters. I ordered my previous (German) Hobby in December 2004 with delivery estimated for July 2005 and that’s when the motorhome became available for collection. I ordered my current (French) Rapido 640 on 11 October 2014 with delivery estimated for March 2015 and I took delivery on 22 April 2015 (which suited me fine). When I visited the February 2014 NEC Show I explored the likely delivery-date of a Rapido 640 and mid-2014 was suggested. I was sceptical and, when I asked a French Rapido dealer the same question the following month, he said “No chance - motorhomes ordered now will be 2015 model-year vehicles and won’t be delivered until September at the earliest”. It wouldn’t surprise me if some motorhome manufacturers have already closed their order books for the 2016 model-year, and the forthcoming introduction of Ducato Euro 6 powerplants may well complicate the ordering process further. If ordering a new Ford-based Chausson (or any new motorhome based on the current Transit Mk 8) it may be worth reading this earlier forum thread http://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Cab-blinds-Ford-Transit/40603/
denkate Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks’ to all for the reply’s, I did not know that the waiting time for a new one was that long, I must try and get a second-hand one now, I would like the Ford but if one came along at the right price I would not mind Ford or Fiat .
denkate Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Hi All, Went to the N.E.C. on Thursday and purchased a Chausson 628 EB from Highbridge on a Ford they have them in stock, will take deliver on April the 1st (hope they are not joking) had a good deal they are going to fit a awning on it for me in with the price, I’m happy with the outcome. Thanks all again. Dennis. P.S. I’ll have to change my profile now.
Derek Uzzell Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 For what it’s worth... When I was at Chausson’s stand at the NEC I happened to notice in a 628EB’s rear garage ’straps’ on the far side that were clearly there to retain a gas-bottle (see attached photo). I asked the salesman about this and was told that, as the vehicle’s gas-locker was designed to accommodate just one cylinder, the in-garage arrangement allowed a 2nd cylinder to be carried (though obviously not used). I said “I bet the NCC would love this” - though, as Chausson motorhomes are not NCC Approved that would hardly be an issue - but apparently the NCC was happy enough with the principle. Then followed much joking about the NCC’s adoration of gas ‘drop vents’, with the salesman saying that, when Hymer had explored gaining NCC Approved status, the NCC had insisted that holes be drilled in the bottom of a cutlery drawer located beneath a gas hob to ensure that gas that might leak from the hob could not ‘collect’ in the drawer. Dunno if the story was true, but if that’s the sort of thing the NCC demands of non-UK motorhome converters, it’s perhaps not surprising that Adria is the only major ‘foreign’ motorhome manufacturer with NCC Approval.
Zydeco Joe Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Was told by a salesman on the Brownhills stand on Tuesday's NEC show that Rapido were not taking orders now for 2016 ,,,, I just put that down to him trying to sell stock they had but am I just being cynical !!!!!.He was also trying to push Auto Trail's Imala range. 8-)
Derek Uzzell Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Zydeco Joe I refer you to paragraphs 4 and 5 of my 2nd posting above (22 February 2016 8:53 AM).
Zydeco Joe Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Hi Derek, He could then have been telling the truth and for a salesman that's rare LOL. I in fact was not even looking at the Rapido as the 640 was the one I wanted to look at and they did not have one on the stand so was looking at a AutoTrail Tracker (which we have now and like))) when he told us about them not taking orders for this year (2016). Had not taken the Euro 6 engine into account just the 20% increase in MH sales as the reason for no orders but you could be right... Not really looking for a new van if I can help it LOL. B-)
