DJP
Hi Anyone got any experience with an Oyster 85 cm dish with auto skew and Icecrypt box in Spain? What can I receive?
keninpalamos
I have 85cm dish by Crystop but with manual scew which I have used down here in Spain for over nine years. Most bbc itv 4 5 etc are no longer available. You can get some news channel still but for how much longer is anybody's guess. I now use, like many others the internet with apps like "FilmOn" which will get you any TV station anywhere in the world. I also watch Spainish TV that has a dual language mode. They have some good films on some nights. You get the weather forcast and documentaries that can be interesting on a wet and windy night. (That's a couple of times a year:-). You will need a decent terrestrial aerial. Mines a Teleco Teleplusx2 a good unit and much better than a Status. Hope that helps.
Mike88
Wouldn't reception depend on the part of Spain television is required? And for those with Sky subscriptions such as Movies and Sport isn't that still possible throughout Spain for these premium channels.
Randonneur
Friends on the Algarve have been using an Icecrypt box but with a much larger dish, they get BBC/ITV etc although they have to change the code via the internet every 2 weeks. Don't know how it works but it does.
tomboy99
Hi there, I am south of spain near Gibraltar, the icecrypt 1600 works for me on a 60cm dish. I can pick up the terrestial chanels in HD without an issue, on 27.5w Tom
DJP
The part of Spain would be from Valencia down to Benidorm. I also have a SKY box and subscription. Film on TV is fine where the WiFi is good but you cannot always depend on that. Some sites good, some non existent. So it looks like I have a reasonable chance, at the moment then! keninpalamos
There, you learn something every day! I'll get one of those when I get back. I just need to get a new control box now for my 85cm Crystop 2 dish. Anyone got one?:-)
rolandrat
The signal to a standard motorhome dish in that area is very poor or non at all. It would be advisable to take a fair length of Co-ax and couplings with you and couple up to the site dish if possible. This is what I do and also use a television with an Analogue channel for the best results. A couple of years ago I bought an all singing and dancing latest Avtec tv, it was completely useless for British channels down there so last year I took my earlier Avtec with me which had an Analogue channel and received perfect pictures, to the wife's delight. I'll be doing the same again this year. Sailing from Portsmouth to Bilbao on April 5th at 0845.

I know you can in Calpe, and probably anywhere that Ex Pats live PJay

I've come to the conclusion - it probably is tooooooo good to be true. It may be possible but it is illegal. See post by satandpcguy who lives in Spain on MHF forum, post No. 3 dated Dec 21st 2015: Sorry, can't get the link to work - probably because I'm not a subscriber. Anyway, it's under "Satellite TV/bbc/itv in Portugal" for those interested. Also, it has been reported that the Intelsat 907 satellite is likely to go out of service in 2016. tomboy99
yep its probably using european satellite, and they are anticipating a Brexit. £60 for a box whats the problem, too expensive? its bugger all when you factor in the price of an Oyster. And a Motorhome. The mind boggles! :) Tom

Robbo
More information on use of digibox Icecrypt S 1600 to access Intelsat 907 satellite at 27.5W for English channels outside the Astra 2 spot beam: http://www.satandpcguy.com/intelsat-bbc-satback/ It appears this facility is an encrypted backup for UK Freeview and is only accessible (illegally) by using special access codes available on the internet. Also, as mentioned previously, the Intelsat satellite is likely to be taken out of service in 2016. So, anybody investing in an Icecrypt digibox, may find the nirvana to be short lived. tomboy99
Soon if we accept it we will not be allowed to purchase a ladder without a competence cert, or a health and safety officer being present. We will not be allowed to change the brakepads on our cars without having a mechanics cert of confidence. I walk accross a road sometimes when the red man is flashing. Why once i smoked in a non smoking area. Hey lets be perfect citizens and be the minions. Controlled by the fatcats that are legally destroying humanity, and whats left of society. Pay All of your taxes, same as Costa, google, and the rest of em. But dont get an Icecrypt, heaven forbid. Now that would really be ILLEGAL. As far as I know the purchase of an Icecrypt S 1600 is not illegal in the UK. However, sellers of this equipment in Spain can receive significant fines. Just wanted to warn potential purchases of the downside, especially the possible retirement of Intelsat 907 in 2016.

Is it me? I should think that the motorhome sat TV market has collapsed in the UK. I don't think it makes any difference if you subscribe to any of these sat TV companies like Sky etc. if the foot print ain't there then it ain't there whether you subscribe or not. Most of the Sky pay channels are available here in Portugal, including third party E4 HD and More 4 HD. Crazy paying for Sky at home and not taking it with you.
