Guest Pete Leigh Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Using Norfolk line Dover/ Dunkirk for the first time at beginning of May. As we arrive in the evening does anyone know if there is overnight parking in Dunkirk?
Guest Roy Hamilton Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hi Pete. What day and time? I'm interested here also, sailing on the 5th arriving in Dunkirk at 17.45.
Guest petej Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Hi Pete, same thing here, going dover/dunkkerque in May. According to campingcar-infos excellent website there are a few locations... http://www.campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm select 'cliquez pour entrer' then click 'recherche un aire' and on the France map click on 'dept 59' (nord pas de calais). there is overnight motorhome parking at Avenue de la mer adjacent to 'plage des alliers' on the seafront at Dunkerque, no motorhome servicing facilities though. Use autoroute for the exact location. type in address or GPS lat/long coord N 51.04917 E 2.38884 if that helps. There is a proper motorhome servicing point at Gravellines a few km's west of Dunkerque if you need to empty/fill your m/home but as far as i know no o/n parking, further info in above link under same dept (59). i've no personal experience of the above so maybe someone who has actually visited these locations would like to comment, good or bad? petej
Guest Keith Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Why not ease up to Brugge there is a motorhome stopover park provided by the council for free and its very close to the town. You take the main A16 route north and this changes name to the A18 in Belgium. Stop off for fuel at Jabeeke (its cheaper in Belgium). At junction 7, just after your fuel, turn for Brugge on the N397 and follow that all the way in until you go under a large railway bridge, stay to the right here and just past the Train station is the turn to the Coach station where all the coaches park to wait for the day trippers. Thats where the stopover park is. toilets nearby and water at park. mileage is about 50 so it will only take an hour. Keith D
Guest Pete Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Roy: we are on the 1700 sailing so I guess we arrive around 2000 so don't want to travel too far. Thanks petej and keith for info.
Guest Dianne Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Hiya Pete, My Husband and i have just returned from a trip in which we did the Dover/DunQ crossing. Firstly can i say we were very impressed. I take it you are going with Noforkline... When we have crossed we have always (both times) stopped at a motorway service station. The one we stop at is on the A26 and is between Dun and Lille. It is the first service station on that road and is about 1/2 hours drive away. Its not fancy just a car park with Gasole and coffee. We felt very safe and ready to go the next day... Havent unpacked the motorhome yet so the map is still in there but im 95% sure its the A26. Let us know how you get on. Hope you have as great a time as we did.
