Guest pelmetman Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 We're homeless :D ........ After 4 years two collapsed chains we have finally sold Pelmet Towers B-) ......... I have now become a full time member of the idle classes........albeit unpaid for another 8 years :'( ....... Currently on a cracking little campsite two villages away........Adult only, fully serviced pitch, huge showers for 16 quid a night :D ...... Plans so far, a month here to let the dust settle, then maybe June in Cornwall at St Ives, July August Weymouth, September to early December France and Northern Spain, then a dash back across the "bay of biscuit" for Crimbo, returning late December to Calpemar for the winter :-> ........
Tracker Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 It's an interesting plan Dave and we admire your nerve and wish you and Sue every bit of good luck and happiness! For many of us an unfixed abode is not really an option we much fancy as we get older and - being a nosey old fart - I wonder what your long term plans are for when the travelling days come to an end? Meanwhile in the short term have you stopped trading thus depriving the world of the best pouffes around, and have you storage for all the furniture, clothes, effects, vehicles and bits and bobs that you might one day need and that the rest of us are unable to live without? Meanwhile.......................Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tracker Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Brian Kirby - 2016-04-01 5:13 PM Cruel, Rich, but very true! :-D I'm really sorry if it comes across as cruel Brian as that was never my intention. Dave and Sue are certainly not fools but I do have to wonder with some trepidation what such a nomadic future lifestyle will hold for them in the longer term?

Hope you find what you looking for. Still in Lincolnshire? Watching Homes under the hammer, it looks like you could buy several 2 up 2 down terrace properties in Wales, and live very comfortably on the rent!! don't leave it to long to buy, prices will go up. As Richard says, some of us are too old to be homeless, need the NHS and free bus pass and FREE meds. Enjoy life while you still healthy too Age does creep up on you PJay
antony1969 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Well done Dave , glad for ya ... When we sold a couple of moves back we stored the gear and lived in the motor no problem ... Enjoyed it actually , didn't like the storage costs though What you aint paying in council tax and house insurance and leccy and gas and upkeep will pay your way till ya decide what to buy Why not buy in France or Spain ? ... You love the EU don't ya ? ... Seriously buy a cheap out in the sticks French property big enough for our motor Good luck young ... Live fast , Die young or sumat
Geeco Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Congrats Dave on your sale. When we started travelling around the country in our "Tracker" we were amazed at the number of grey nomads that had sold up and were on the road permanently. I have not spoken to one that was unhappy with the decision. Your plan to buy a property to rent out makes the whole process even more attractive as you can always go home if and when you need to put down roots again. Last year we spent a total of 8.5 months "on the road" and will probably be on the go for a similar period this year. Keep chasing the sun and enjoy the ride. Cheers,

Cheers, Cheers Gary.......Its been an itch we've been contemplating scratching for a while ;-) ....... The house selling whilst in Spain mean't we were unable to do any serious house hunting, which gave me the nudge to give up my Pouffe & Pelmet empire, as my brother had been covering for me anyway so my customers will not be to put out B-) ..... We're not in any rush to find another property as we'd rather buy one that we'd like to live in eventually, rather than buy one just to rent out, because the cost of buying and selling now days is not cheap 8-) ....

Guest pelmetman Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Bought a house yesterday :D .........Decided to knock the thatch on its head as its too much work, so bought a nice detached cottage up a dead end lane on the edge of the Wolds and Spilsby a small market town, needs work but its OK for renting out in its current state ;-)...... What difference in the market though, we were on the market 4 years.....the cottage we've just bought 4 days 8-) ........but we knew we had to move quick, as we got gazumped on one we bid on in the same lane whilst in Spain *-) ...... Plenty of room to build Horace and Fanny garages B-) ...........
PJay Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Well done Dave & Sue. SEE you are sensible after all!1 Well one of you is!! Does it have room for an AIRE?? PJay
Dave225 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Well done. As you say the markey is very fickle. Up here houses rarely stay on the market for more than a week or so and the dreaded 'offers over' syndrom is back as well. One house round the road from me did not even manage to gett he For Sale sign up, before it had gone However, as we decided about 20 years ago when we had a chance to move that the move would be the last, so we skipped buying another house and went for a spacious apartment instead that we felt we could leave for extended holidays easily, and as all the communal work is shared, the costs are much lower. Plus of course buying and selling always involves costs, up here that is about 5% of the total sum. However, it now means that when one of us pops the clogs, the other will not need to worry about being in too large a property etc. Also being in the city means no car is necssary (free bus pass and all that) and amenties such as hospitals etc are on the door step. Sooner or later we will need them.
