Peugeot Boxer Key Fob

Any slectronic whizz chaps on here familiar with Boxer Key Fob. This is the problem, if I leave the battery 2032 in the device the battery will go flat so I take the battery out and every thing is OK. I have dismantled the fob and looked at the circuit board OK. Why does battery go flat. In the battery holder are four small metallic fingers on a strip I believe that two are to keep pressure on side of battery and other two for contact. I stand to be corrected. When the battery is inserted the rim of it makes contact with a sprung metal strip that goes to two metal contacts which appear to make contact with a contact on the underside of circuit board. HELP

I guess it can only be because one of the buttons is pressed in all of the time., or a short on the circuit board. Never experienced this before. I expect you will either need a repair to the buttons/board or a new key. This kind of thing is rather difficult to speculate over.

Just a quick suggestion, are you sure that you have the correct batteries. There are many types of button batteries, which look very similar, and are slightly different thicknesses and ratings.

also, are they fitted the correct way round.

Hi, in this situation my first reaction is electrical contact spray from halfords, remove the battery give the fob and board a light spray, give it time for excess to evaporate, reassemble and work the buttons

This method has already fixed my immobiliser, habitation control panel, and radio, works for me?

Just buy the correct spray, DON'T BE TEMPTED WITH WD40!!

Thank you all for the replies. The battery 2032 is the correct one and will only go into its housing one way. I have sprayed the circuit board with contact cleaner and operated the 3 little buttons on the board and they seem fine and the stems that depress the buttons are free and go back into their housing quite freely.

Have you checked that the battery is flat and it's not just a poor contact.? Worth checking with a multimeter to see if the battery is still giving out 3v.

Otherwise I would suggest that you get a new remote key fob from eBay for a fiver which comes with a new battery holder. You'll need to retain the bottom half of the shell as it contains the immobiliser transponder which is glued in place. And of course you'll need to transfer the key blade and the circuit board which is unique to your vehicle. But you'll end up with a virtually brand new key fob which, with any luck, won't drain the battery.

If you have trouble in identifying the correct fob, as there are several types, let me know and I'll try and point you in the right direction. They're usually advertised as a Fiat part but they're the same as Peugeot.

Roly I have looked for Peugeot Boxer/Fiat Ducato 3 button and cannot find one identical to mine via Google link. I am hoping to be able to download pics of my Fob soon, stripped down. I have put the battery back into the Fob and made note of voltage of 3,03 volts yesterday of the battery.

Len - You haven't said the age of your vehicle but if its an X-250 do an eBay search on Peugeot Boxer key fob and you'll probably see yours about 5 down from the top. Just make sure that the photos of the innards are similar to yours. This one is £9.95 although you may get one cheaper if you do a similar search under Fiat Ducato key fob.

Can't recognise the key from the photo!

Our Boxer is also 2009 but obviously a different type of fob. I'm sure that you'll find the correct one on eBay.

I take a photo at normal resolution then use a programme on the pc to reduce the resolution to 800x600 which brings it down to a size that is acceptable to bulletin boards.

Sounds like it's a trip to your local Peugeot dealer to sort it out. But I hope you have deep pockets as it won't be cheap. Otherwise try contacting an auto electrician who should be able to help, but they will need to know the key code. If you haven't got it your dealer will give it to you, no doubt for a cost.

Len,

Before you go the main dealer try giving these people a call... Duplicut.

They are, quote "Replacement key fobs

We are specialist in key fob replacement and supply and code car key fobs for most vehicle makes. Lost, stolen or damage car fob, we can replace it – either in our conveniently located shop, at the roadside or at your home or workplace"

Or there must be similar companies in your area, try Google.

Roly it would have been the bottom one if I had bought one. I went to Sutton Coldfield today but it was a waste of time after all. I was expecting them to at least have had a look at the circuit board but they didn;t. They tried to sell me a key but no cicuit board. This would open the door on drivers side and would start the engine but not operate the central locking. So we have bitten the bullet and been to Peugeot and ordered one when we got back. £263 ouch! We had to supply V5, passport and utility bill. 5-10 days for delivery. No more pics. :-S
