webbocj
For the last few days i have searched the internet for a "fair" quote for two bikes, value 4K., my home insurance with Nationwide is a nonstarter, but would cancel and start a new policy if the right deal could be found with another company. The specialised bike only covers vary between £250/350 and even then some find it difficult to cover 2 x 60days.Our bikes are both stepthro' and has Judgemental suggested "who would want to pinch a Dutch barge bike"!!! I have read previous threads but beleiving ebikes are becoming more popular thought an up to date view would be much apprciated by many. Chris. markh1
I did too, we have 2 Moustache Samedi platinum ebikes worth £5000, I too had the same problem with my house insurance as the bicycle cover is limited, however Aviva suggested I add them as named valuable items (like you would a painting or a watch) which I did, no cost 'till renewal and then another £40, they are covered for their full value, the only stipulation is they must be locked to something permanent (like a lamp post) when not in use

webbocj
Does that cover in the Eu? (my thread should have read 2 x 60 in the Eu)
lennyhb
I paid £25 for a value of £3200 to include them on my house policy with Saga only condition is I have to tell them each time I take them abroad. Will be looking around soon as Saga will only cover the house for 60 days away at a time.
webbocj
Lenny, Just spent 50 minutes talking to Saga and then 20 minutes with the underwriter, what a minefield. Firstly Saga would not insure "motorised bikes", then they were not covered for Eu., each time she would put me on hold and speak to the underwriter, several times. Eventually the underwriter rang me and said that Lloyds would cover them, perhaps with no excess. You would think that i was the first person to insure an "electriclly assisted pedal bike" Chris. lennyhb
I think I got mine sorted in 15 min, it can be a pain in the arse when I go away each time they have to ring the underwriter and usually takes a couple of days to sort but the price is good. Likewise Nationwide was a nonstarter we did have the house insured with them until they wanted £200 to cover the bikes.
Hulguly
My house insurance covered mine for about £100 extra for 2 bikes worth £2500 legal and general 2 very important things First if your biks are legal pedelec ithey are classified as a cycle not an electric bike don't ask for electric bike cover in this instance. Secondly in my opinion even more important to ensure you have asked to include public liability cover Hope this helps.

Thebroons
Muswell - 2016-05-11 12:04 PM Would they be covered on a bike-rack? We were informed that they were covered on a bike rack as its regarded as an immovable object. Did seem strange considering most bike rack tubing could be cut through in seconds.
