Leaking tap on Bessacarr E425

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Perry.

The Bessacarr E425 model has been produced continuously since the late-1990s. You haven’t said when your motorhome was manufactured, but (based on on-line adverts) all E425s seem to have a kitchen layout similar to that shown in the attached picture, with a fridge beneath the sink/drainer.

Photos in the adverts indicate that the design and positioning of the sink-tap varies and in some instances it looks like it MIGHT be possible to reach the underside of the tap to remove it without displacing the fridge. If your tap is leaking from above the kitchen worktop (eg. there’s something wrong inside the tap itself), curing the fault might be practicable without removing the tap.

First things first, if you say when your motorhome was made and provide more information about the leak a forum member who has hands-on Bessacarr E425 experience may be able to offer expert advice.

Looking at various pics on google, it looks like you have a tap with a standard 35mm ceramic cartridge insert. These are very easy to replace and a common source of tap issues such as leaks.

Easy done if so

1. You may or may not have a little cap covering a screw on the lever. Usually doubles up as the hot /cold direction indicator. Remove to find retaining screw underneath. Some levers are just push fit!

2. Now you should find the retaining cover for the cartridge which just unscrews and rest is fairly obvious after that.

3. You do get various types of insert from high pressure low flow to low pressure high flow. There is not actually much difference between them apart from the rate they open.

You can get from most plumbers merchants or online.

e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARAVAN-MOTORHOME-35MM-CERAMIC-TAP-INSERT-CARTRIDGE-X-1-/371295753719?hash=item5672f395f7:g:cwUAAOSw-7RVG-8p

So check size and you should have no problems replacing the insert if you take care, clean housing , and line up pegs etc.

I picked a caravan accessory supplier as usually they supply the low pressure high flow types and was 1st I found online.

If your tap is quite different -- apologies.

Thanks forum master,we have just bought the van recently and found a couple of leaks, first one was the hot water pipe going into the bottom of the wash hand basin in the toilet, tried pushing it back in but it wouldn't stay in so decided to reroute the pipe to the shower temporarily, until I find a way to fix it permanently. Then the leak appeared in the kitchen sink tap but will try out what you have suggested. This may get us our first week-end away. We bought the van privately therefore no comeback. lessons are always learned. Again thanks.
