C1 at 70 another question

I am familiar with the D4 medical for my annual bus licence renewal but if using D4 form for renewing at 70 and keeping C1 entitlement ( as my wife now is ) how do you respond to the question: 'Date when first licenced to drive a lorry'?

Responses from those of you who have done it will be most useful.

Thanks.

Hi Harvey,

Assuming you have a photocard licence then if you look on the back and find the date in Column 10 against C1 this is the date you require. It will almost certainly be the same date as class 'B' (Car) as this where your grandfather rights come from.

Thanks Keith,

Not a photocard licence though but I can see now what to put from the date on the old licence. It will be 'before date of previous licence expiry' i.e. < 09 05 1977.

Interesting that the 'old' paper licence has class A as 'Any Vehicle' ( with a few minor exceptions ) so driving a 'lorry' then or even a 'bus' would have been covered with no weight restriction .... although driving a bus to carry passengers as a Public Service Vehicle would have required a 'PSV' licence which is now a 'D' licence.

Regards,

Harvey
