Vixters other half
Can any one tell me where is a level datum on a motorhome? I accept the the vehicles suspension and the way you load it will have a bearing but somewhere there must have been a level to start with or how could the manufactuers ensure what they were building was level ( and square) ? Im currently using a large whiskey tumbler - not very accurate but enjoyable. VoH

Keith T
level - what's that! Our Rapido sits slightly tail up, so we usually have to put something under front wheels if you actally find a level pitch. Plus side is, of course the rainwater runs off! Fridge works OK, and as long as our heads our higher than feet, we can sleep OK, but soup and coffee can be a bit of a problem!
Mel B
VOH - are you sure it's the van that's not level and not you after all that whiskey!?!?! So long as the peas stay on the dinner plate it's level enough! Can't remember if I put this before, but if not: "I eat my peas with honey I've done it all my life. They do taste rather funny, but it keeps them my knife!" (lol)
Vixters other half
I suppose its rather academic, but with the various drains located at centre or sides of the basin sink and shower, I thought in my simple way that there must have been a level to start with. That was were the builder then knew where to put the drains. I was hoping to use this datum to mount a two way spirit level so we could get pretty level when arriving on site. I guess I will stick with the one way level Cheers VoH
Mel B
Judging by the way some motorhomes are built and the thought that goes into them (or not!), I doubt if some think too greatly how the drain holes lie. At least if it doesn't drain away too quickly, your feet can have a nice soaking as you shower!!! You can still mount your level - you just need to get your van to an acceptable level to you then mount the level so that it is ... level! Dave Newell
Hi VOH, if you're looking for a spot to mount a level this is what I did. First place a spirit level on the floor of the living area. Now adjust the van with levelling ramps or jacks until the level says its level (if you know what I mean). Next find a spot on the dash that's convenient and fasten your mini level with packing as required until it too reads level. Henceforth you will be able to see at a glance if your 'van is close enough to level for you to live comfortably. D. P.S. don't forget to take the jack out again before you move the 'van. :-D
chas
Hi Dave, your method is exactly the same as what I have done, and the bubble level is mounted on a blob of buddies, which can be pressed down to position it to read level. My bubble level is one which is square with cross marks indicating centre, so it reads both forward and sideways in one read. chas
empress
We find after a lot of discusion we are level or as near a damit. Some hours later just check as a matter of interest not the same "reading". Has anyone else found this to be the case? So as long as no one falls out of bed who cares?! Goodness as long as I keep writing rubish like this I'll get another star before Christmas!
Keith T
Hi EmpresYes, we find the 'van tends to 'sink' into the pitch just a little after the initial levelling, guess its to do with teh weight distribution indise, and the fact that we are walking around in it! We do have steadies, but on the Rapido 710 as there is almost no overhang, they are in the middle between front and back wheels so hardly ever use them. Bur guess they would settle as well anyway. Dave Newell
Half an hour spent doing as I outlined above means I can have the motorhome levelled within acceptable limits in less than five minutes, as this aids personal comfort while parked I consider it to be five minutes well spent. i'm not overly fussy about level, within a degree or two is good enough usually. Clive
Short answer is in your ears. How many of us and pretty accurate at parking level without any aids? (I just use the freebe MMM level afterwards to prove I am right!!!!) C.

Mangothemadmonk
I am sure I read somewhere in one of the monthlies that you should try and be level as if not you could seriously damage the fridge....Anyone else read this somewhere? spartan3956
Why is it that where ever you park the water runs away from the shower outlet the drainer and the sink. Maybe i should reverse into the chosen pitch would that improve the equilibrium. I usually say thats near enough and apply the handbrake. pete
Dave Newell
Parking off flevel will not permanentlydamage the fridge but it might not work as well as it should. D.
Clive
Agreed!, Also any table properly installed in the habitation area by the converter will also be a good datum, Just pop your saucer of cold tea on it and make sure the puddle is in the middle when you apply the parking brake. Mel B
Don't know who the ditty was originally done by, my Mum just told it to me one day! As for the cold tea in a saucer ... now I KNOW you're ancient Clive - I bet you slup it afterwards as well!!!
