AndyLou
Hi We are thinking of going to this show but there is no camping and no parking except for cars. Does anyone know of a good place to stop for a couple of days within walking or cycling distance or access to public transport? Thanks
veletron
Caravan club site: http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/caravanclubapps/applications/uk-caravan-sites-and-parks/SiteDetails.aspx?csid=21873 or maybe the C&CC site at Mortonhall. I have personally stayed at the CC CL '22 Damhead' http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/uk-holidays/search-and-book/certificated-locations/site-detail/?Id=25023 (members only). for a tenner a night. Both Mortonhall and 22 Damhead require a big, long climb to get back at the end of the day! All a fair trek... ~8 miles maybe I work in Edinburgh, and stayed at 22 Damhead for 6 weeks last year while the trains were diverted to avoid a 2.5hr each way commute! Further out, http://www.linwater.co.uk/ is a possibility but that's 10 miles away. Thinking outside the box and depending on the size of van, you could park at Ingleston Park and Ride for nowt, and walk to the show (1 mile). Likely to be busy though! You can get a tram from here into the city as well. There were no height barriers last time I used it in my van about 2 years ago. You'll prob get better answers from someone less local! AndyLou
Hi Thanks for the info. The P&R place you mentioned does not allow overnight parking but the one at http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/wallyford does. It is 1/2 hour away but that should be ok for just 1 or 2 nights. veletron
Aye, I knew they did not allow overnight - I meant it more for day parking with overnight on one of the campsites. Overnighting much much handier though! Near to the Ingleston P&R, from the train window, I often see motorhomes and caravans parked up. Looks more like a traveller settlement than somewhere you would want to stop yourself though! There are several industrial estates around here also, usually with lorry drivers kipping in cabs.
