skottle
I have been told for a 10 tonne motorhome you now (since the 1/11/06) need a HGV Licence. Can anybody please clarify this for me.
olley
Hi Skottle its has always been the case according to the DVLA that any person driving a motorhome/rv over 7.5 tonnes GVW needs an HGV licence ("C" Class) Olley
skottle
Hi Olley. Thanks for that. I was under the impression I could drive one with a car licence. (Good job I didn't buy one!!!)
olley
hi Skottle, I did say according to the DVLA (lol) there are many people driving them on a car licence, and to date nobody has been prosecuted or had a problem with an insurance paying out after an accident. Their is one very well known case involving a Travelworld driver, where the DVLA dropped the case. If you search on the various forums you will find stacks of threads about it, some very emotive. This year while getting an insurance quote one company said they would not insure over 7.5tonnes without a "C" licence another one said the same if the engine was over 8litres 8-) I got mine 6 months ago cost about a £1000.00. well worth it for peace of mind.
